2022 Haitian Flag day
On May 18th, GA celebrated Haitian Flag Day. The over 200-year-old celebration highlights Haiti's national flag, cultural heritage, and the revolution that gave its people freedom from France. Our BLOC program participants celebrated Haitian Flag Day with a day of activities that included a presentation from the Little Haiti Cultural Center on the history of Haiti, a guided tour around Little Haiti, and traditional Haitian food and music.

L'Union fait la force! Unity makes strength!

Street Outreach Event
Our Street Outreach Team continues to take GA services directly to the people in the community as a part of our active outreach approach to service delivery. The team recently visited Edison Park and met with families in the community to inform them of the many services that Gang Alternative, Inc. offers. They handed out supplies and resources and actively gathered information to serve the underserved.

Chief Diner en
Blanc Event

GA’s “Chief Diner en Blanc” was a success! The Nap Tann team recognized and awarded the student participants of the Miami Carol City Senior High School After School cohort for their participation and completion of the program.

Parents of these students were able to learn more about Nap Tann and listen to students share the knowledge and skills they acquired during the group sessions. Nap Tann educates and engages students and parents and/or trusted adults to exercise healthy communication within peer-to-peer and peer-to-parent/adult relationships. Vice Principal Karen Delgado shared the school’s continued interest in the implementation of this impactful program and we are proud to continue partnering with Miami Carol City Senior High School for our program efforts.
We look forward to receiving a new cohort next school year!
Mental Health Awareness Month
In observance of Mental Health Awareness Month, North Miami Senior High School invited our Youth Excellence Program (Y.E.P) Team to its Mental Wellness Club. The Y.E.P. team participated in the Mental Health Fair, creating a much-needed space to share coping methods and positivity with youth.
Staff Wellness Sessions
GA clinicians host wellness training for staff focused on mental health awareness and self-care. Every day, our staff is confronted with the dire issues that face our communities through the provision of direct services. So, we provide these quarterly sessions for self-efficacy.
Our goal is to discourage staff from trying to pour from an empty vessel. They have been provided with a well-equipped toolbox to address whatever comes up. We remind staff that they are part of a community that values those who know that asking for help is a strength and that keeping an open heart means healing by feeling.

We look forward to incorporating yoga/ wellness activities into our summer programming. Our team of therapists is available to facilitate Mental Health First Aid training to schools, places of worship, businesses, and community partners. These trainings include a terrific section on self-care, and are free of cost to any organization. For more information, please get in touch with sdavis@myga.org.
