FAUQUIER COMMUNITY THEATRE PRESENTS
THE WORLD PREMIER OF SHOAH
Sponsored by WILL Interactive
Twenty-three actors and two musicians will touch your heart.
The live music for SHOAH was written by Jewish prisoners in the camps.

Fauquier Community Theatre presents the World Premiere of Dr. Harry Kantrovich's stage adaptation of the Holocaust documentary SHOAH Jan 21 - Feb 6, 2022. Shoah is another word for the Holocaust. It comes from Hebrew, and literally means catastrophic upheaval. The Holocaust, or Shoah, refers to the Nazi party's attempt in the late 1930s and early 1940s to exterminate the Jewish people of Europe. Shoah is a French documentary film about the Holocaust directed by Claude Lanzmann.

The film was released in April 1985, eleven years in the making, it was over 9 hours long. The film presents Lanzmann’s interviews, with survivors, witnesses and perpetrators during his visits to Holocaust sites around Germany and Europe. Lanzmann released the entire text of the film as an oral history of the Holocaust in conjunction with the release of the film in the United States.

Dr. Kantrovich remarks, "World War II, in particular The Holocaust is a passion of mine. I lost family in the Holocaust and those that I knew who survived, I could always see the pain in their eyes, it never left. When I first saw the 9.5 hour documentary in 1985, I was mesmerized. As I got more enveloped in the theatre, I knew I wanted to adapt the transcript to stage. I have been involved in theatre, one way or another for over 50 years as a member of community, college and professional theatre as an actor, director and now writer. I have been part of superb casts and production teams who have given and produced award winning and nominated performances, deserving all of the accolades they received. No cast or creative and support team can and will ever surpass what they have given for SHOAH. Twenty-three actors, two musicians, twelve creative team members and the FCT Executive Director, Board Liaison, Artistic Chair and committee and the entire board have given SHOAH their heart and soul. No playwright or director could ever ask for more."

More comments from Dr. Harry Kantrovich can be heard on the SHOAH Radio Interview about the world on stage premiere.

The producer for SHOAH is Don Richardson who has been instrumental in bringing this world premiere to Fauquier Community Theatre. Richardson has volunteered with FCT for almost two decades in many roles on stage and off, including as past board president.

The month of January was chosen for the opening of the production since January 27 is designated by the United Nations General Assembly as International Holocaust Remembrance Day (IHRD). Since 2005, the UN and its member states have held commemoration ceremonies to mark the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau and to honor the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust and millions of other victims of Nazism.

Performances of SHOAH will take place on Fridays and weekends between January 21 - February 6, 2022 at the Vint Hill Theatre on the Green located at 4225 Aiken Drive, Warrenton, VA. Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:30 pm, Sunday matinees are at 2 pm. Tickets for reserved seating are available now online at www.FCTstage.org.

There are some complimentary tickets available that were gifted and allocated for high school students since they are studying the Holocaust in school. For more information, email [email protected].

NOISES OFF
DIRECTED BY JEFF WALKER
NOISES OFF IS IN REHEARSALS!
Noises Off written by Michael Frayn is a manic menagerie of itinerant actors rehearsing a flop called Nothing’s On. Doors slamming, on and offstage intrigue, and an errant herring all figure in the plot of this hilarious and classically comic play. “The most dexterously realized comedy ever about putting on a comedy. A spectacularly funny, peerless backstage farce. This dizzy, well-known romp is festival of delirium.” – The New York Times.

Performances for FCT's production of Noises Off are scheduled to take place from March 11 – 27, 2022 at the Vint Hill Theater on the Green. Performances take place on sFriday and Saturdays at 7:30 pm and on Sundays at 2 pm. Tickets are on sale now for reserved seating at www.FCTstage.org.
AUDITIONS FOR THE PAJAMA GAME ON FEBRUARY 4 AND 5
DIRECTED BY HAYLEY KATARINA-MEYER
The Pajama Game was awarded the 1955 Tony for Best Musical and, over half of a century later, claimed the award for Best Revival of a Musical, proving that the story is truly timeless. With an energetic score by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross (Damn Yankees), The Pajama Game is brimming with songs and dances that have become musical theatre standards, including "Steam Heat" and "Hernando's Hideaway."

Conditions at the Sleep-Tite Pajama Factory are anything but peaceful as sparks fly between new superintendent, Sid Sorokin, and Babe Williams, leader of the union grievance committee. Their stormy relationship comes to a head when the workers strike for a 7 ½ cent pay increase, setting off not only a conflict between management and labor, but a battle of the sexes as well.

Featuring plenty of fun and splashy production numbers, including a comic "dream ballet," The Pajama Game is filled with standout featured roles and a large ensemble. This perennial favorite is a surefire crowd-pleaser and a glowing example of solid, classic musical comedy.

The director of The Pajama Game is Hayley Katarina-Meyer. She studied English and Theater Education at George Mason University. She is an actress and has directed many shows with her own and other theater companies.

Audition dates are: Friday, February 4 from 7 pm to 9 pm and Saturday, February 5, from 10 am to noon. Location will be either in the Vint Hill area of Warrenton or in Old Town Warrenton. Callbacks, if needed, will be on February 5, 2022 from 5 pm to 7 pm. For more information and to register for an audition, click on The Pajama Game Audition Form.

Performances of The Pajama Game will take place on Fridays and weekends April 29 - May 15, 2022. at the Vint Hill Theater on the Green. Tickets are on sale now for reserved seating at www.FCTstage.org.

Fauquier Community Theatre has chosen Roald Dahl's James and the Giant Peach as their annual youth production for a cast of ages 7 to 17. Auditions for the musical are open to the public and will take place on Monday, February 21 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm and on Thursday, February 24 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Pre-registration is required and choice of dates and times are on the Audition Registration Form. The show is directed by Jack Tessier and produced by Steve Hyland. Roald Dahl's fantastical tale of a boy, his insect friends and their amazing journey across the ocean on a giant piece of fruit. Roald Dahl's James and the Giant Peach is now a musical for the whole family to enjoy! Featuring a wickedly tuneful score by the Tony Award-nominated team of Pasek and Paul (Dogfight and A Christmas Story the Musical) and a curiously quirky book by Timothy Allen McDonald (Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka, The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley), critics rave: James and the Giant Peach is a "masterpeach!"

When James is sent by his conniving aunts to chop down their old fruit tree, he discovers a magic potion that results in a tremendous peach... and launches a journey of enormous proportions. Suddenly, James finds himself in the center of the gigantic peach, among human-sized insects with equally oversized personalities, but after it falls from the tree and rolls into the ocean, the group faces hunger, sharks and plenty of disagreements. Thanks to James' quick wit and creative thinking, the residents learn to live and work together as a family. The dangerous voyage is a success, but the adventure takes a whole new twist once they land on the Empire State Building.

A delightfully offbeat adaptation of the classic Roald Dahl adventure, the creative possibilities with James and the Giant Peach are endless. Actors will love playing the outlandish characters and performing brand new material from one of Broadway's hottest duos.
