RECOGNITION AND PUBLICATIONS
Languaging Myths and Realities: Journeys of Chinese International Students, written by Qianqian Zhang-Wu, Assistant Professor of English and Director of Multilingual Writing, has won the 2022 Best Book Award at the Comparative and International Education Society (CIES) Study Abroad & International Students Special Interest Group.
Kyle Oddis, English PhD candidate, has published a co-authored article titled “A Framework for Analyzing Features of Writing Curriculum in Studies of Student Writing Achievement” in the Journal of Writing Analytics. The article “demonstrates how identifying and analyzing features of writing curriculum can provide dimensions of local context not captured in analysis of student-generated texts alone.”

Caffè Italiano is an intercultural language exchange event that takes place weekly on the Boston campus. Italian teaching faculty and students gather to practice speaking Italian using games and other fun activities to develop conversation skills and to learn about Italian culture. The idea is to practice with both native and non-native speakers of the language, to socialize and learn about our multicultural students.

NULab will hold its fifth annual spring conference, showcasing the work of our faculty, graduate students, and research collaborators. This year, the conference will have the theme “What now?” and will share research on taking stock of current events, envisioning possible futures, and living with the unexpected. The keynote will be delivered by Gabriela Baeza Ventura, associate professor of Hispanic literature, and Carolina Villarroel, Brown Foundation director of research for Arte Público Press, both at the University of Houston.

The conference will be virtual with an in-person lunch and social gathering in the "Central West" tent on the West Village Quad from 10:30am to 4:30pm. All are welcome to join! Bring your laptop and listen to the conference, catch up with fellow attendees, and enjoy lunch, breakfast, or a snack.

A Northeastern University Student Initiative, Sustainable U Productions, was established in April 2021 with the goal of portraying important environmental issues in film and emphasizing the importance of individual action. This event will be hosted by Madhavi Venkatesan, Assistant Teaching Professor of Economics, and attendees will hear from a panel of experts featured in the film as well as student filmmakers and environmental activists. While the film's premiere will be livestreamed, the panel and other special speeches will only be in-person.
