A Message from the Principal
Hello DPM Families,

We are half-way through the school year! The second semester officially starts on Monday, January 24th. Our students will be starting new Creative Arts classes, so please have your child check Schoology for their next Creative Art rotation. Creative Arts teachers will be posting information related to materials and supplies students will need for their classes.

DPM athletics and activities are well underway. Our Wrestling Team grappled the competition and hold a team record of 3-3. We wish our wrestling team good luck as they participate in the Johnsburg Tournament this weekend! Also, Boys Volleyball teams have been holding tryouts for the Spring season. The DPM Spelling Bee is set for next week as our students compete for a place in the county Bee.

Last week the Thursday performance of the 5th & 6th grade general music classes encountered technical difficulties. We have re-recorded portions to be shared with families, which can be viewed here. It was exciting to hear our 5th grade band students play classics such as “Hot Cross Buns” and “When the Saints Go Marching” during their concert this week. Thank you to Mrs. DeGregario and Mr. Ames for coordinating a new performance date. A recording of the concert is available for families.

Sincerely,

The DPM Administrative Team

Dismissal Traffic Update: We want to thank you for supporting our efforts to improve dismissal procedures. Please watch this video reminder regarding after school pick-up, as we continue to partner on safely picking up students after school. These changes have allowed us to reduce traffic on Hastings to 7-10 minutes after the school bell rings at 3:35 pm. Thank you for your support.

Illusionist Family Event: The anti-bullying comedy and magic presentation by illusionist and motivational speaker Tom Coverly will be held on Tuesday, February 8 from 6:00-7:00 PM. The presentation will take place in the Deer Path Middle School gym and is open to all District 67 families. Thank you to the APT for their help in organizing the presentation and the Spirit of 67 for bringing Tom Coverly to our District.
Fastbridge Screeners: DPM students who were absent from the Fastbridge Math Concepts and Application (CAP) screenings will participate in make-up testing scheduled for Monday (1/24) and Tuesday (1/25).

Tech Reminder: As a reminder, please have students charge their devices every night and bring them back to school in the morning. A lot of student devices are requiring updates and not running smoothly. We are asking all students to perform software updates at HOME (if needed), as to better maximize their time at school. Thank you for your cooperation. If you have any questions you can contact the tech team via email at studenttechhelp67@lfschools.net

Multicultural Fair Volunteers Needed: In honor of World Language Week, we invite all District 67 families to join us at Cherokee on March 9 for a night of traveling around the globe and visiting the different cultures represented throughout the district. We are looking for families who would be willing to set up a table and/or make a poster board to share their heritage culture. (Click here for table ideas.) If you are interested in participating, please respond using this Google form. If you have any questions, please email Jeff McHugh at jmchugh@lfschools.net.

Voluntary Weekly Testing: As a reminder test kits are available for pick-up every Tuesday at each school and due back by Thursday morning to allow for lab processing. The tests are administered at home using a nasal swab procedure. Participants opting to test must complete a consent form via a HIPAA certified link by Thursday of the week prior to testing.

Submitting Proof of Vaccination: Parents can submit proof of vaccination by copying their child’s white vaccine card and emailing it to the school health form mailbox. DPM Parents, grades 5 & 6 should email dpmeasthealthforms@lfschools.net and parents grades 7 & 8 should email dpmwesthealthforms@lfschools.net. Students are considered fully vaccinated 2 weeks from the date of their 2nd dose. Vaccinated students are exempt from quarantine if deemed a close contact if they are asymptomatic.

5th Grade SEL Presentations: The DPM 5th grade team of teachers, along with administration and our Student Services department, will be holding Social Emotional Learning (SEL) presentations for our 5th grade students. In these presentations, topics will be discussed such as friendship, kindness and SEL school support available at school. Our goal is that we provide students with knowledge of the available resources at Deer Path and an opportunity to ask questions about how to deal with challenging peer situations when they arise in middle school. The presentations will be held on January 24th for girls and January 25th for boys. (note: dates are updated).
