EPTA Network stands with Ukraine
Since the military attack by the Russian Federation on Ukraine, we have been deeply alarmed, as Josep Borrell expressed “we witness the return of tragedy on European soil”. As a European network, we support the independence and sovereignty of Ukraine. We stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine and call for respect for international humanitarian and human rights law. We stand in support with our colleagues and friends from the Academy of the State Penitentiary Service in Ukraine, a long-standing and active member of the EPTA community.

The course was organized in one of the largest Slovak prisons in Leopoldov in December 2021 and January 2022 for three groups. The design of the course was inspired by the EPTA Training Manuals developed within the project ‘Tackling Gaps in Cross-Border Cooperation for Penitentiary Training Academies’.

International English Webinar
When individuals or teams find themselves in stressful situations during their professional practice, which may lead to various disorders, it helps to acknowledge or explain in understandable words what is happening to the mind and the body. These changes are considered to be normal reactions to extraordinary events that will remain for a several days, and in most cases will recover back to the norm. This knowledge is useful for all persons, working in the prison service, in order to understand themselves, but also to help and understand others. At this next International Webinar the topic will be 'Leadership Role in Psychosocial Emergency Care' facilitated by Peter Schulte, Prison Service Training Center in Lower Saxony, organised on 16 March by the Czech Prison Service Academy.

Publication of the European Judicial 2021 Report
DG Justice’s General criminal law and judicial training unit recently published the newly edited Report 'European judicial training 2021'. This new version of the annual Report monitors the quantitative and qualitative objectives set by the European judicial training strategy for 2021-2024. A new section introduces some information regarding training of prison and probation officers on EU Law. “Although the European judicial training strategy for 2021-2024 does not set a numerical objective for prison and probation officers, it acknowledges that prison and probation officers are concerned by EU law in some of their daily tasks and are therefore also in need of specialised training.”

Dynamic Security: Challenges and Perspectives for French Prisons
The thematic file questions the transition from the notion of dynamic security to its concept, then from the concept to its policy, that is to say to a vision of security in detention in addition to the more classic and usual practices contained on security "passive” and “active” safety. More specifically, by tightening the definition of dynamic security through analyses, the group of authors manages to design a security policy based both on practices of transforming social detention relations into but also on the idea that the security can be the product of co-production between prison staff and the inmates. In this perspective, tools and devices are thus identified and presented through the prism of the definition by making a distinction between actions that produce security and actions that are more relevant to a security dimension. Finally, testimonials from professionals complete the file based on the sharing of their experience around dynamic security.
