Mrs. Maldonado’s Classroom Highlight!
Our kindergarteners had so much fun at their Halloween party and parade! We are so grateful for our parent volunteers for providing such wonderful activities for our students!
Our kindergarten friends have made so much progress during Q1 and we look forward to continued growth during Q2!
In Math, we are learning about addition. Students are learning to join two groups and decide how many there are in all. They are learning to represent joining situations as equations using the symbols + and =. Students use a variety of manipulatives to help them solve equations. We are focusing on solving addition problems using objects or drawings.
In ELA, the students just finished writing about what they are thankful for this Thanksgiving. They also enjoyed writing about and illustrating their favorite pie. Students will continue practicing writing a sentence with a capital letter, a finger- space between words, and correct punctuation at the end of the sentence.
During our Reading block, students are learning to identify the characters, the setting, and major events in the many stories we read. They answer questions about key details in the stories and retell familiar stories. The students are learning to predict what a text will be about based on the title, cover, and background information. The children love reading our weekly emergent reader texts and are beginning to read them independently! We are proud of our students, as they are becoming amazing readers and writers!

¡Nuestros niños de kindergarten se divirtieron mucho en su fiesta y desfile de Halloween! ¡Estamos muy agradecidos con nuestros padres voluntarios por proporcionar actividades tan maravillosas para nuestros estudiantes!
¡Nuestros amigos de kindergarten han progresado mucho durante el primer trimestre y esperamos un crecimiento continuo durante el segundo trimestre!
En Matemáticas, estamos aprendiendo sobre la suma. Los estudiantes están aprendiendo a unirse a dos grupos y decidir cuántos hay en total. Están aprendiendo a representar situaciones de unión como ecuaciones usando los símbolos + y =. Los estudiantes usan una variedad de manipulativos para ayudarlos a resolver ecuaciones. Nos estamos enfocando en resolver problemas de suma usando objetos o dibujos.
En ELA, los estudiantes acaban de terminar de escribir sobre lo que están agradecidos por este Día de Acción de Gracias. También disfrutaron escribiendo e ilustrando su pastel favorito. Los estudiantes continuarán practicando la escritura de una oración con una letra mayúscula, un espacio con los dedos entre las palabras y la puntuación correcta al final de la oración.
Durante nuestro bloque de lectura, los estudiantes están aprendiendo a identificar los personajes, el escenario y los eventos principales en las muchas historias que leemos. Responden preguntas sobre detalles clave en las historias y vuelven a contar historias familiares. Los estudiantes están aprendiendo a predecir de qué se tratará un texto según el título, la portada y la información de fondo. ¡A los niños les encanta leer nuestros textos semanales de lectura emergente y están comenzando a leerlos de forma independiente! ¡Estamos orgullosos de nuestros estudiantes, ya que se están convirtiendo en lectores y escritores increíbles!
