Sloan Creek Intermediate School Principal Message

Hello, Sloan Creek Parents!
I hope you all enjoyed your three day weekend. We have had a great week here at Sloan. There have been many highlights including a small concert with some of our orchestra students, poetry cafe in 5th grade and time spent in classrooms. I am also excited to go to Willow Springs with 5th grade for the Fine Arts Preview.
As we continue through the school year, I wanted to share that I will be opening the doors of Sloan Creek at 7:00 am. At 7:00 am, students will be able to go to the cafeteria where they can catch up on classwork and visit with friends. I hope this helps some of you as I know mornings are busy and many of you have jobs to get to and kids you are dropping off at multiple campuses.
Also, thank you for your patience as we begin to update the website. If you ever have questions about upcoming events or where to find forms, please feel free to reach out.
Lastly, thank you to the families that donated breakfast to our staff on Thursday. It was such a nice treat and our staff truly appreciated the kind gesture.
Mrs. Halpin

Fine Arts Registration for Rising 6th Graders
DUE February 1st, 2022
Fifth graders have an exciting choice to make for their sixth grade fine arts elective. They may choose between art, band, choir, or orchestra. The counselors have met with each PE class and discussed what factors to consider when making this important decision and what factors should not be part of the decision.
Things NOT to factor into your decision when making your Fine Arts choice:
1) Do not consider which elective friends are enrolling in, because
there is no guarantee they will be together.
2) Do not consider experience level when picking a fine art class. All classes are
beginner level and no experience is required.
3) Do not consider homework or practice time be a deterrent as all fine arts
classes have some outside time required.
4) We do not want cost to be a deterrent. If there is a concern please contact one
of the fine arts teachers or counselors.
5) Do not consider what instrument your parents or your siblings played.
Things TO consider when making your Fine Arts choice:
1) This is a year-long commitment. We will not change fine arts electives
during the school year.
2) Please research each elective by reading over the information provided
on the website and pick the one for which they have the most passion.
The information can be found by going to the Lovejoy ISD website > Campuses
> Sloan Creek > Parents > Academic Information > 2022-2023 Fine Arts
Registration Information.
Once students and parents have explored all options and are ready to commit to a choice, it is time to complete one and only one of the forms. We need every 5th Grade student to complete one Google Form found on the website, in the Grade 5 Google Classroom, or at the following links by February 1st:
Forms will be live on January 25th -
Visual Art - Google Form - Students must also complete a hands-on portion to be
considered for Art. Click Here for more information.
Please remember that this elective will meet for one period every day. This is a year long commitment, so please make sure your child is ready and they know the expectations for each choice. If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know. Thanks!!

Sloan Creek Families,
Our Kids Heart Challenge has started and 18 students have already joined us by taking a challenge to Move More or Practice Kindness! Hop on board if you didn't get started last week. It’s free to sign up your student, and Kids Heart Challenge benefits our school by providing valuable heart health & wellness resources for our community and classrooms, PE equipment, and funding!
HERE’S HOW TO JOIN!
Why do we support the American Heart Association? 2/3 of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests occur inside a family’s home. Funds raised can help train millions of people to respond in a cardiac emergency to save the life of a loved one. Also, students can complete Finn’s Mission once they sign up for Kids Heart Challenge. One of the steps is learning training around hands only CPR and what to do during an emergency.
Please click here to sign up for Kids Heart Challenge!
