Embedded motion enables major advances in DNA sequencing by helping instrument designers miniaturize the photonics subsystems. It is similar to the advances that embedded motion brought to pathogen detection systems by focusing light on microfluidic channels. Learn more in this month's issue.

Embedded motion speeds development of new NGS instruments for DNA Sequencing
To achieve the goals of higher throughput and lower costs, next-generation sequencing (NGS) instrument developers are driving towards three goals:
  • smaller samples
  • parallel sequencing
  • more automation

Achieving these goals requires designers to master miniaturization and distributed control of the photonics subsystems.

These optical subsystems, including light sources and imaging sensors, require sub-micrometer adjustments to individually tune and actively align photonic components. Watch the short video (0:59)
