The Skelton Medical library is now accepting applications for the 2021 Jocelyn A. Rankin Student Excellence in Library Research Award. Students currently enrolled in any of the MUSM programs across all MUSM campuses are invited to apply. The deadline for submissions is Friday, April 16, 2021.
The purpose of the award is to highlight library research. If you have utilized any of the medical library’s resources or services to complete any projects while a student, we encourage you to apply.

Completed Research Project. Examples of potential research projects include: original research papers, lab or clinical research investigations, poster and oral paper presentations, theses, annotated bibliographies, case reports, community health needs assessments, published articles, etc. Research completed as part of your curriculum is allowed as long as you demonstrate that you have utilized library resources and/or services.

Reflective Essay (500-750 words)
Applicants are strongly encouraged to review the Evaluation Rubric that the Evaluation Committee uses to review submissions. Questions and submissions can be directed to Jennifer Dawson.

Climate Change and Clinical Practice CME Event
Save the date for this half-day symposium on April 28, 2021 on climate change and clinical practice! This CME event will convene clinicians, hospital leaders, health professionals, and students for a series of short, engaging lectures and panel discussions on the clinical practice implications of climate change as well as strategies for addressing climate-associated practice and care delivery challenges. Dr. Jennifer Barkin, Associate Professor of Community Medicine in Macon, will be speaking on Maternal/Child mental health in connection to extreme weather events and climate change. MUSM Office of Research Grantwriting Series: "Grantwriting 101"

Join Jacob C. Warren, PhD, MBA, CRA, for an introduction to and overview of the grantwriting process. Intended for new grantwriters, this session will discuss grants terminology, federal grant mechanisms and other common sources of funding, typical grant components, and provide an introduction to the grant review process.

MUSM showed the Mercer Medicine COVID-19 Testing Unit and Student Health Centers in Atlanta and Macon appreciation for the hard work they've been doing over the past year. The MUSM Student Affairs and Student Wellness program offered goodie bags and Mercer Medicine created special t-shirts as small tokens of our immense gratitude.

Memorial Health Children's Hospital of Savannah Now Open!
The new Memorial Health Dwaine & Cynthia Willett Children's Hospital of Savannah opened this week. The facility includes the only dedicated pediatric emergency department in Savannah and the only children's hospital in Southeast Georgia and southern South Carolina. Other services include PICU, pediatric induction rooms, and 14 pediatric specialty units.

In Memoriam: Dr. David Byck
A dear friend of Mercer University, Dr. David Byck passed away earlier this month. His significant contributions to the development of MUSM's campus in Savannah were much appreciated and his enthusiasm and good humor will be greatly missed.
