"Help Us Hear" Reaches 10 year Anniversary
In honor of our upcoming Hear & Now annual Gala, let's take a quick look back to March 2012...
HollyEARwood set the stage at the elegant Longboat Key Club. Guests and patrons arrived bedecked in Hollywood glam-inspired fashion of the era. The red carpet was rolled out bordered by handsome silhouettes of Marilyn, James, and Elvis.
It was not quite the "Oscar" event, but for the Ear Research Foundation it was far better. An exciting new, life-changing program was introduced - the HELP US HEAR was unveiled. This dynamic program provides AT NO COST hearing aids and hearing devices for people with severe hearing loss to those who financially qualify (on or below poverty). This month celebrates the tenth anniversary of that auspicious occasion.
Support Help Us Hear celebrating its 10th Anniversary, and all the people who received the gift of hearing through the program. Help Us reach more...Give the gift of hearing, so all may hear.
And All That Jazz...
Did you reserve your tickets yet? Next month is the Ear Research Foundation's Annual Gala event, Hear & Now.
This year, the event will feature performances by jazz legends Dick Hyman and David Amram. The evening will be hosted at the Sarasota Opera House on April 9th. If you do not live locally, no worries - the live show will be streamed for audiences to view anywhere. Besides the option for virtual tickets, prospective attendees can purchase in-person, show-only tickets, or premium event tickets which includes cocktails and mingle, dinner, show, and post-show after-party.
The Foundation is looking forward to this groundbreaking performance by two legendary jazz musicians- all to benefit the continued mission of the Ear Research Foundation.
The night will begin at 5pm, with mingling, drinks, and signature '60's cocktail, sponsored by Tito's Handmade Vodka. Dinner follows with a '60's inspired supper-club menu. Proceeding dinner, guests will enjoy the music of Dick Hyman and David Amram. After the performance, attendees will join the exclusive after-party, with more musical performances. Featured Fellow: Hayes Wanamaker
Ear Research Foundation's 10th Fellow, 1990-1991
The Ear Research Foundation established the third Clinical Otolaryngology Fellowship in the United States in 1983, right after the House Institute and Michael E. Glasscock III fellowship programs . The Fellowship is a one-year program for board-eligible Otolaryngologists where fellows gain specialized training and cutting-edge experience. Our current fellow is number 48. Our newsletters will feature and honor fellows, their accomplishments and their fellowship with the Foundation.

Following in his father's footsteps Dr. Wanamaker knew a rewarding and fulfilling career as an otolaryngologist awaited.

Dr. Hayes Wanamaker hailed from Dartmouth College and later, SUNY Upstate Medical School where he completed his residency in Otolaryngology. He began his Fellowship training at the Ear Research Foundation in 1990 - as Fellow # 10!
Although Dr. Wanamaker followed in his fathers footsteps in the study of otolaryngology, he chose the Ear Research Foundation for his Fellowship. One of his friends and mentors, Dr. Seth Rosenberg mentioned the Ear Research Foundation as THE place he should go for his ultimate training.
When asked if there was anything during his fellowship he did not expect,
Dr. Wanamaker said, "I did not expect that my relationship with Dr. Silverstein would become so personal and long-lasting. He became a mentor, an inspiration, and an advocate for the rest of my career."
The year Dr. Wanamaker was in his Fellowship training, special, 3-day didactic courses at the Ear Research Foundation offered new extra-special training for surgeons from around the globe. Taking part in the courses was not only an extraordinary experience, but knowing that people came from all over to learn what he had the fortune of experiencing daily.
Recently, Dr. Wanamaker retired from his clinical practice. He remains active at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse, New York: from hospital administration, serving on the board of directors, and president of the medical staff (during the pandemic).
Since retiring from his clinical practice, he has additional time to dedicate to various non-profit organizations he is a part of, and most importantly to spend precious time with his family - and two, new grandchildren!

“It is because of organizations like the Ear Research Foundation that we are able to provide needed services for the children we serve. Services like these help us ensure we are meeting all the needs of the children we serve. Meeting their needs leads to better overall health and increased academic performance”
