Diocese-wide Bicentennial finale on November 20
On Christ the King this Sunday, November 20, 2022, the entire diocese will observe a moment of dedication and thanksgiving as they bless their congregation’s set of Bicentennial Chalices and Patens, specially commissioned for our celebration.

While the Diocese of Maine celebrated its 200th birthday in the year 2020, the year-long multi-event celebration that had been planned was significantly changed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Finally, the chalice and paten sets made by ceramic artist Stephanie Rozene, have been distributed to churches and will be blessed. Professor Rozene wrote, "I believe that the work is not finished until it is in use and in this, I am honored that the work will be finished by everyone in the Diocese of Maine as they take part in the Eucharist. The colors are reminiscent of those that remind me of Maine, blue waters, green of the pines and white porcelain for the preciousness of each life."

The worship team has put together a special liturgy for churches to use for the dedication along with two hymns recommended for the celebration! You can find those materials here.

Photographs and video of your congregation’s dedication on November 20th are highly encouraged! Please send them to our Dio Log email.
Share your favorite Advent or Christmas hymn
Last chance! Click here to share your favorite hymn selection and story with the diocese before noon tomorrow, Friday, November 18th, when the form closes.

When considering your answer, think about what makes that hymn special to you? What impact has it had on your or your parish's life? Are there any special memories related to that hymn you'd like to share? Where in the world or in your life's journey does this hymn originate? We are excited to learn about your favorites, especially if they are pieces that we're not yet aware of or more obscure.

The diocese will share out many of the hymns, carols, and stories, during the Advent season!
Participate in a virtual book launch with Dr. Catherine Meeks
We were delighted to recently have Dr. Catherine Meeks, Executive Director of The Absalom Jones Episcopal Center for Racial Healing, lead our online "Racialized Trauma and Healing" event earlier this month, and we look forward to welcoming her back (this time in person!) in the spring, to lead the annual spring clergy conference April 30-May 2, 2023 at the Schoodic Institute.

Dr. Meeks has written a new book, and we are all invited to attend a virtual book launch on December 8 at 6:30 pm! Join together to celebrate Dr. Meeks' latest publication, The Night is Long but Light Comes in the Morning: Meditations for Racial Healing (Church Publishing, 2022). The event will feature prolific leaders from across the Church as we come together to look inward and reflect on the meaning of social justice and what it means to love one another.

Register for the event here.

Prayers
Please remember in thought and prayer the Rev. Ted Petterson, who died recently following a stroke surrounded by his family and friends. Ted was canonically resident in the Diocese of Los Angeles. He served for over 40 years at the summer chapel of Church of the Redeemer in Sorrento and wrote a book about his experiences called Summer Blessings: A Minister and his family in Sorrento Maine. There are no funeral details available at this time.
St. George's, York Harbor will celebrate the Rev. Sudie Blanchard this Sunday as she retires! Sudie has served the Church, the community, and the parish of St. George as a deacon for many years. Please join us in offering prayers of thanksgiving as she begins a new chapter.
We pray for our clergy answering the call to serve the wider Episcopal Church. The Ven. Aaron Perkins, Archdeacon, has been appointed to House of Deputies President Julia Harris's Council of Advice. The Rev. Lauren Kay, rector of St. George's, Sanford has been appointed to the House of Deputies interim body: Committee on the State of the Church.
Let us pray for the Rev. Dr. Myrick Cross who will celebrate his last Sunday with St. Patrick's, Brewer on November 20. They held a farewell retreat for Rick in honor of his retirement at his property in Salisbury Cove on Mount Desert Island last week. The retreat was led by the Rev. Bill Blaine-Wallace. Through tears, laughter, and joyous singing, Rev. Cross and his flock shared in memories and discussion about what it means to be an Episcopalian.
