Why Is The Village Hall Phone Ringing?
When does yard waste pick up begin? Yard waste collection starts April 4, 2022, weather permitting. Yard waste must be placed between the curb and sidewalk in sturdy paper bags or in containers that can be emptied. Yard waste bags or containers must weigh less than 50 pounds. Please remember that grass clippings are prohibited.

When is 2nd installment of Property Taxes due? For those residents who elected to pay their property taxes under the installment plan, please be advised that the due date for the second installment is March 31, 2022.

April 5, 2022 Election Updates:
**NEW** April 5, 2022 Sample Ballot: Click here view a sample ballot for the Spring Election. It is the same for all wards.

Absentee Ballot Update:
  • Absentee ballots will be mailed to residents this week. Absentee ballots may be returned via USPS or at the Village Hall front desk during regular business hours (8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday). Absentee ballots must be received by 8:00 p.m. on Election Day. Absentee ballots may not be returned via the Village Hall vestibule drop box.
  • Per a recent circuit court decision, voters may only drop off or mail their own absentee ballot. Voters may not return absentee ballots of other household members or family members.

Save The Date For Bay Day - May 7:
Join the Whitefish Bay Civic Foundation, WFB Public Education Foundation, Merchants of Whitefish Bay and the Village on May 7, 2022 for BAY DAY!

This year’s event will promote the theme of “Footprints to the Future—Our Conservation Efforts Bring Us Together” with focus on sustainable water use, energy efficiency and impactful local initiatives. Come to Klode Park at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 7, there’s something for everyone!

5K Run/Walk and Kids Fun Run:
  • Bring your reusable water bottle and support the Whitefish Bay Public Education Foundation.

Recycle Day Drop-Off:
  • The traditional recycling drop-off will once again take place in the Dominican High School West Parking Lot from 9:00 a.m. to Noon. Watch for more details soon on what items you can bring to be reused, recycled and disposed of.

  • Watch for information on how you can win valuable prizes from the Merchants of Whitefish Bay!

This event will model our commitment to reducing waste, conserving water & energy, and will serve as a forum to educate others on how to reduce resource consumption at similar public and private events. Collaborating Partners: The WFB Civic Foundation, The WFB Public Education Foundation, The Merchants of WFB, Dominican High School and The Village of Whitefish Bay.

Whitefish Bay Staff Retirements:

Last week we celebrated the retirement of two of the Village's most valued and longest tenured employees! Court Clerk Linda Small retired after 34 years with the Village and Officer Patrick Murphy is retired after 29 years with the Village. Congratulations on a well earned retirement!
Summer Seasonal Job Openings:

The Village is looking to fill four (4) seasonal laborer positions within the Department of Public Works. The positions may be responsible for waste/brush/refuse/recycling collection, flower bed planting/weeding/watering, shrub bed hedging/weeding & mulching, and other general tasks.

The positions begin in May and end in late August. Forty hours per week is expected but not guaranteed. Pay is $14.00 per hour depending on experience. Working hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Prescription Drug Take Back Day:

The next National Rx Take Back Day will be April 30, 2022. This event is a safe, convenient, and responsible way to dispose of unused or expired prescription drugs at locations in communities throughout the country. The event will be at Whitefish Bay Village Hall from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on April 30, 2022.

Update From the Recreation Department:
Summer Early Bird Resident Registration Has Begun:

New, starting in the Summer of 2022, the random Lottery System for overfilled classes is replaced with the Resident Early Bird Registration which has already begun. Click here to view the Summer 2022 Digital Recreation Guide.

Residents can now to start registration online or submit a paper form to our office. Registration is processed on a first-come, first-serve basis until the class is filled. High-demand classes then go to a manual wait list. If you notice a class is full online, please call our office to get on our wait list. If your registration is received by paper and the class is full, you will be automatically notified and added to the waitlist. Don't wait to register!

Respect Our Waters Update:

Contractors working in Whitefish Bay are responsible for controlling erosion and sediment onsite to prevent sediment pollution. Construction activities can lead to erosion; where possible erosion should be mitigated and where impractical eroded sediment must be managed and contained.

Construction activities per §11-26A(3) of Village Code are required have an erosion and sediment control plan reviewed and approved by the Village. It is the responsibility of the contractor to properly maintain erosion and sediment control devices that will prevent pollutants from leaving the site.

Sites with failing or missing erosion and sediment control mechanisms can negatively impact our community. Sediment pollution can lead to water conditions that are unsafe for swimming and fishing, localized flooding, harm to wildlife, and other issues that negatively affect our community’s health and quality of life. Cozy Evening Zoom Storytime with Miss Taylor - Tuesday, March 15, 6:30 p.m.: Join us for a cozy evening storytime on Zoom from the comfort of your own home. Wear your comfiest pajamas, build your coziest blanket fort, and enjoy stories and songs with Miss Taylor. Registration required.

Take and Make For Adults: Bird Seed Blocks - Thursday, March 17, 9:30 a.m. until supplies last: Pick up a Take and Make kit for making a bird seed block and then start some seeds from our seed library in your planter! We'll include all the materials you need, as well as instructions. Pickup begins at 9:30 a.m. near the adult services desk.

Rainbow Flower Bouquet Crafting on Zoom, Thursday, March 17, 4:00 p.m. Grades K5-5: Pick up your crafting kit at the YS desk starting Monday, March 14 then join us on Zoom where we'll show you how to take ordinary coffee filters and make a beautiful rainbow bouquet welcoming spring.  Please register.

2022 Friends of the Whitefish Bay Public Library Scholarship: Friends of the Whitefish Bay Public Library are pleased to announce two $500 educational scholarships for students who have been positively influenced by libraries. High school seniors who are residents of or attend school in Whitefish Bay and will be attending college during the 2022/2023 school year are eligible. Application deadline is March 15. Bay Bridge thanks all residents who submitted questions to the Whitefish Bay Candidate Forum and to all constituents who were in attendance. Thanks also to League of Women Voters for moderating and to all 6 candidates for participating in the forum. Whitefish Bay Garden Club Annual Meeting:

You’re invited to join the Whitefish Bay Garden Club for a poetry reading by Whitefish Bay resident Susan Firer on Tuesday, April 12, at 7:00 p.m. Attend via zoom at this link: https://tinyurl.com/yckhmyf3.

For 35 years, Susan taught creative writing at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She has been a National Endowment for the Arts fellow and a Milwaukee Poet Laureate. She is the author of six books of poetry, including Milwaukee Does Strange Things To People. Her most recent book, The Transit of Venus, was named an “Outstanding Work of Poetry” by the Wisconsin Library Association in 2017. Her poems have appeared in many journals and anthologies, including The New York Times Sunday Magazine, Chicago Tribune, Ms. (Magazine), and The New Yorker.
Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast with the Bunny:

Come celebrate Spring at the North Shore Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast with the Bunny on Saturday, April 2, 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. The event will take place at Dominican High School, 120 E. Silver Spring Drive, Whitefish Bay.

Enjoy taking photos with the Bunny, raffles, and a delicious breakfast featuring pancakes, sausage, juice, milk & coffee. Tickets are available at the door, from Kiwanis members, or at Winkie’s Variety Store - just $8 per adult (10 & up) and $5 per child (over 2 years of age). Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world, one child and one community at a time. All proceeds will benefit Kiwanis youth charities.

NSHD Healthy Highlight: Poison Prevention Awareness.
 
Not all poisons are easily identifiable with a skull and cross bones image, many are items we may not think about, found in our homes. More than 90% of poisonings happen in the home.
 
Some common sources of poisoning in the home include:
  1. All medicines and pharmaceuticals, including over-the-counter medicines, prescription medicines, vitamins, and supplements
  2. Tobacco and nicotine
  3. Alcohol
  4. Laundry and cleaning supplies
  5. Pesticides and insect repellents
  6. Button batteries, such as those found in musical greeting cards, key fobs, etc.
  7. Any type of oil or lubricant, including fragrance oils, tiki torch oils, engine oil, etc.
  8. Personal care products, especially contact lens disinfectants and hand sanitizers
  9. Carbon Monoxide
  10. Lead
 
Home Safety Tips
  1. Keep cleaning products and cosmetics up and out of the way/reach
  2. Read product labels before each use
  3. Don’t mix cleaning products together

  • Skin contact: Wash area fully with soap and water
  • Eye exposure: Thoroughly rinse for 20 minutes
