Region 8 including Elmhurst has moved into Phase 4 Tier 1 Mitigations
The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) has announced that due to decreased COVID-19 positivity rates, Region 8 (including Elmhurst) has moved to Tier 1 of COVID-19 Mitigations, which includes the allowance of limited indoor dining.

A full list of mitigation guidelines for Tier 1 are available at this link.
Included but not limited within these guidelines is the limited re-opening of indoor dining to the lesser of 25-persons or 25% capacity per room of the dining establishment at a maximum 4-persons per table.
The City of Elmhurst strongly encourages that you choose local when possible. Our local businesses need your support now more than ever. While we move into the next phase of restoring our local economy, please remember to comply with health department recommendations. Continue to practice social distancing by wearing a mask in situations when a minimum of 6’ of social distancing cannot be maintained.

Remember the 3 W’s:
We must remain focused on moving to Phase 4 of the Restore Illinois Plan which will allow for less restrictions on restaurants and bars. In order to reach this Phase, Region 8 must reach the criteria to leave the resurgence mitigations and re-enter the original Restore Illinois Plan which includes a positivity rate less or equal to 6.5% for three consecutive days and no sustained increase in COVID-19 patients in hospitals measured by a 7-day average of 10 days.

Elmhurst Police alert community of increased carjackings in the area
The Chicagoland area is currently seeing a significant increase in carjackings, including Elmhurst and the Western Suburbs. Elmhurst Police are asking residents to be mindful of their surroundings at all times and report any suspicious activity by calling 911.

The individuals have reportedly been traveling to residential neighborhoods and retail areas where they watch for residents to enter or exit their car. They then confront the driver with force or while armed to take the victim’s vehicle. The stolen vehicle is then used to commit other crimes.

Our visible patrols in residential neighborhoods and the business district have increased. We have successfully identified threats to our community and have chased offenders out of town on several occasions. A recent example occurred when patrol officers observed a stolen vehicle that was just taken during an aggravated vehicular hijacking in a neighboring community. Our officer observed the stolen vehicle pull up to an occupied vehicle in a business parking lot. Our officer intervened by quickly approaching the stolen vehicle and immediately, the driver of the stolen vehicle accelerated at a high rate of speed out of the area. Our officer attempted to apprehend the vehicle and occupants, however the vehicle continued at a high rate of speed and a vehicle pursuit was terminated as we didn’t want to risk harm to any innocent civilians.

In addition to increasing our patrols, we continue to work with our neighboring communities, DuPage County and the City of Chicago on this issue. We also rely on our use of technology to identify stolen vehicles and to prevent these crimes in our community.

This notification is not intended to unnecessarily alarm, but serves as a reminder that we are not immune to this type of crime. We are asking the community remain highly aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious activity by immediately calling 911.
Snow season is upon us! Here are some reminders on
the City's Snow Removal Procedures
Following a snowfall, main roads are cleared first, followed by neighborhood streets and other less-traveled roadways. Snow is typically removed from the center to the curb in
a series of four passes. Residents are reminded to please wait until City crews have completed their work before clearing your driveway approach because it is not possible to complete plowing without pushing some snow onto driveway approaches. During plowing operations, windrows of snow may be created in the center of the street and then removed during the night time hours when there are fewer vehicles to impede the process. Please avoid shoveling or blowing snow into the street when you are clearing your property. Residents can also help by clearing snow from fire hydrants to help firefighters locate them quickly in an emergency. Please remember, too, that parking is not permitted on City streets for eight hours following a snowfall of two inches or more.
Space Heater Safety
Our hearts go out to the Des Plaines Community and the families who lost their loved ones to a fire on January 27th. The Des Plaines Fire Department is investigating a space heater as the cause of the deadly fire that claimed the lives of five residents. To avoid another tragedy, we would like to take this opportunity to remind residents of the following safety tips when using space heaters.
