Go Quakers!
VARSITY BOYS BASKETBALL
The Quakers opened their league schedule on Jan. 4 with a game at John Jay-Cross River.

It was a low-scoring game to start out, with JJCR leading 10-8 after the first quarter. The game remained close through the second and third quarter, with no lead for JJCR larger than seven points. The boys remained focused and resilient, and with a late rally tied the game and pushed it to overtime. Ultimately, JJCR prevailed, 58-49.

Connor Melis carried the scoring load for Greeley with 23 points to go with 11 rebounds for an impressive double-double. Other contributors were Ethan Golub with nine points, nine rebounds and three blocks and Justin Potack with eight points and four assists. Brandon Fitzsimmons added five points and excellent defense and Michael Gecaj scored four points.

Next up for the Quakers is a home game on Jan. 12 at 4:45pm against league rival Somers. Go Quakers!
VARSITY GIRLS BASKETBALL
Greeley played its first game in more than a month on Tuesday night against John Jay-Cross River. It was the Quakers' home and league opener.

Junior Emma Rose got the Quakers off to a good start, taking a pass from senior Olivia Camhi and draining a corner three-pointer about 25 seconds into the game. It was Greeley's only lead of the game. Rose was injured midway through the first quarter and did not return.

John Jay led 21-8 after the first quarter and 33-16 at halftime. The Wolves had a 48-25 lead after three quarters and got the win, 56-40.

Senior captain Julia Herzner led Greeley with 10 points and senior captain Kaylin Genda chipped in with seven points. Freshman guard Allie Mosca played well, scoring five points. Sophomore guard Bella Schulman also had five points.

Greeley returned on Thursday to host Brewster in another league game. The Quakers were scrappy early on and trailed 10-4 after the first quarter. The Bears dominated the second quarter and had a 24-6 halftime lead. Greeley found some offense in the third quarter with Schulman connecting on three three-pointers but trailed 42-21 heading into the fourth quarter. Brewster, behind star Grace Galgano's 25 points, 13 rebounds and 11 blocks, ended up winning, 58-30.

Schulman led the Quakers with 12 points on four three-pointers and Genda added four points. Sophomore Ava Gusba and Mosca each had three points.

Rose did not play due to her injury.

Greeley (1-3) hosts Scarsdale tomorrow (Saturday) in a non-league game at 11 a.m. and then continues the league portion of its schedule over the next week, traveling to Somers on Jan. 12 for a 5 p.m. game and then hosting Mahopac on Jan. 14 at 6 p.m.
