Stephen Moved Into Transitional Housing!

You may recognize Stephen from the cover of our Annual Report, where he shared that he wished everyone in his shoes had the opportunity to come to TIS. Stephen has taken the opportunity you have given him very seriously. He has worked tirelessly, excelling at his job, participating in classes, and making big budgeting changes. This month, he moved into his own transitional apartment, taking the next step on the path to Success!

Two of the guests at Evelyn's Place got jobs this month! Congratulations to Jackie, who started work at the Tidewater Inn and Glenn, who is the newest employee at Acme.

One of the mothers at Easton's Promise secured childcare this week - a big step forward on her journey to self-sufficiency! Once her child is enrolled, she can look for employment and start saving!

We have partnered with the Neighborhood Service Center (NSC) to welcome a family of five into one of our transitional apartments. NSC will provide case management for the family, while TIS will provide other services and perform monthly inspections of the apartment.

Congratulations to the parents at Easton's Promise, who completed the second installment of our Money Management series this month! Our guests are finishing up these classes with a better understanding of their spending and saving styles, how to identify their spending priorities, how to create and stick to a budget, and more invaluable skills that will help them achieve and maintain Success!

Case Manager DeWayne just started Life Skills Training with the single guests at Evelyn's Place. This is a new class which will last seven or eight weeks. Each unit covers a different topic, such as taking care of one's health, making good decisions, risk-taking, and self image. We can't wait to hear what kind of discoveries the men and women at Evelyn's Place make while delving into this new self-exploration!

YOUR SUPPORT all of these achievements possible! We are so grateful to you for the opportunities you give to our neighbors in need. You help propel them into a new, successful life!

Our Historic Homes Require Lots of Upkeep!

Did you know that our sister shelters are located in the heart of Easton's Historic District? With the help of many wonderful supporters, we take great pride in maintaining our properties to the highest standard. People often stop on the street to admire our buildings, and Easton's Promise has even been featured in Southern Living magazine as an example of Easton's beautiful historic architecture!

The exteriors of our homes are now in need of a refresh. Abatement First Remediation Company will begin work this week, cleaning and painting the entire exterior of Evelyn's Place, as well as the front of Easton's Promise.

Taking the utmost care of our properties is extremely important to TIS' mission. It's not just about maintaining the historic character of the homes. Part of our imperative is to change the perception of what a homeless shelter looks like, and where people who are unsheltered deserve to stay while they get back on their feet. Welcoming our guests into a beautifully appointed home in the center of our town shows them that our community supports them, and helps to restore the dignity and confidence they may have lost in the process of becoming homeless.

The total proposed cost for this project is nearly $37,000, and we need your help to offset the expense. Ensuring that the outsides of our homes remain a shining example of the respect and dignity our neighbors deserve carries as much import as the work that happens inside them!

If you would like to make a donation to help cover the cost of this project, please contact Development Director Laura Richeson at 443-786-6962 or lauraricheson@talbotinterfaithshelter.org. Thank you so much in advance!

Spotlight on Team TIS!

We are always proud to shine a spotlight on some of the hundreds of extraordinary volunteers, donors, and cheerleaders who give of their time and treasure to ensure we can carry out our mission to provide Shelter, Stability, Support, and a path to Success for families and individuals in need. Meet just a handful of the Team TIS members who blessed us with their support this month!

Who Is TIS?

Team TIS welcomed more than 130 new members this month!

On September 11th, TIS became the very first awardee for Women Who Care Talbot County! We, along with our friends at Talbot Humane and the Mid-Shore Pancreatic Foundation, had the opportunity to give a presentation in front of more than 100 caring local women. The group voted, and TIS will now receive $100 from each woman in the club - more than $13,000 - to provide gap childcare funding for TIS families!

Childcare is one of the biggest challenges that our parents face. To qualify for state childcare scholarships, they must show proof of employment. Without someone to watch their child while they look for a job, their progress in our program can be delayed months, or in some cases, years. This grant will close the gap for our parents, helping expedite their journey toward Success.

We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity, and look forward to seeing all of the wonderful things this group of generous women make possible for our community!
