Wellness Tip of the Week
Gardening for mental health

Exposure to plants is a surprisingly highly studied topic. It has been studied for mental health and many other subjects, including the healing of individuals after an surgical operation. There is a therapy type that exposes people to plants and gardening which is referred to as green care. It has been tested and proven that exposure to plants or even viewing plants can reduce stress, fear, anger, sadness. On the more physical side this can reduce blood pressure, pule rate, and muscle tension. Furthermore, gardening usually involves being outdoors in the sunshine to help soak up some vitamin D to help improve mood.

Outdoor physical activities to try:

Equestrian trails are available at many Nebraska state parks including Branched Oak near Raymond Nebraska. Don’t own a horse? In May, you can ride the horses at Mahoney State Park near Ashland Nebraska.

Hiking sounds nice, but hiking with llamas sounds even better. Head to Prairie Patch Farm in Cedar Rapids Iowa Friday April 9th. Take a 1.5 mile hike across their 50 acre Nature Preserve & Wildlife Refuge from 10am to 1pm on Friday. This is a one- of-a kind experience is 90 minutes with 20 minutes in the barn leaning about the animals, their history, care, handling, and uses today.
