from the Session Meeting held December 5, 2023


Business:



  • Session approved the Facility Use Request of the OLLI Bridge Class for one Sunday School classroom for February 20, 22, 27, 29; March 5, 7, 12, 14, 19, 21, 26 and 28. The rental rate will be $20 per day used.
  • Session approved the Facility Use Request of Sherry Herringshaw for use of the Great Hall for a quilting event one Saturday (to be determined) in August 2024.
  • Session examined Jay Nesom and approved his entry into Active Membership by Profession of Faith on December 24, 2023.
  • Session approved a 2024 Budget. Expenses of $93,461.00 are anticipated to exceed income projected to be $82,910.00 by ($10,551.00). Ways to reduce expenses and increase income will be explored during the coming year.
  • Session approved pledging $3,440.00 to the Presbytery of South Louisiana in response to their per capita request.
  • Session approved entering into an agreement with Rev. Betsy Irvine to provide Pastoral Supply to Highland Presbyterian Church from January 21 – May 31, 2024. The agreement is dependent upon approval of the Committee on Ministry of the Presbytery of South Louisiana.

  • A thank you note from Plew Elementary School for a donation made in memory of Chris Rollins was received.
  • A letter from The Presbytery of South Louisiana with information about pledging for 2024 was received.

Congregational Care and Christian Education Committee


  • Lagniappe Ladies met for lunch October 15 at Mike Anderson’s Seafood Restaurant in Prairieville and November 18 at The Proverbial Wine Bistro also in Prairieville.
  • The Education Committee chose an Advent Devotional provided by Living Compass titled Living Well Through Advent 2023.


Evangelism/Membership Committee


  • The average attendance for October was 16. We welcomed two guest ministers in October: Rev Anne Cramer and Rev. Michael Elmore.
  • The average attendance for November was 13. We welcomed two visitors in No-vember.


Finance Committee


  • Session received the September Financial Reports. Income of $6,032.81 exceeded expenses of $1,412.19 by $4,620.19.
  • Session received the October Financial Reports. Expenses of $8,060.53 exceeded income of $4,512.00 by ($3,548.53).
  • Session received the November Financial Reports. Expenses of $11,074.16 exceeded income of $3,458.41 by ($7,615.75). Year to date Actual Expenses of $79,704.15 exceeded Year to date Actual Income of $78,334.62 by ($1,369.53)


Missions Committee


  • An offering to benefit Heifer International was received on Sunday, November 19, 2023. A minute for Mission was presented on November 12.
  • The Christmas Joy Offering will be received on December 17, 2023. A minute for Mission will be presented on December 10.
