Have a Safe and Healthy Labor Day Weekend
Observed the first Monday in September, Labor Day is a celebration of the social and economic achievements of American workers. The holiday is rooted in the late nineteenth century, when labor activists pushed for a federal holiday to honor the many contributions workers have made to America’s strength, prosperity and well-being. As we head into the Labor Day weekend, the U.S. Department of Labor is highlighting the fact that every significant piece of modern social safety net legislation was enacted with the support, and often the leadership, of organized labor. From workers’ compensation and unemployment compensation laws and the 40-hour week to Social Security, Medicare, the Occupational Safety and Health Act, the Federal Mine Safety and Health Act and the Family and Medical Leave Act, America’s labor movement has been a driving force for progress. September is National Suicide Prevention Month
The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline provides 24/7, free and confidential support for people in distress, prevention and crisis resources for you or your loved ones, and best practices for professionals.
The Suicide Prevention Resource Center has issued a two-page Ideas for Action that offers information to help everyone get involved in Suicide Prevention Month in September. It includes tips on how to take action to help prevent suicide in your workplace and community, such as learning about effective suicide prevention, sharing stories of hope and empowering everyone to be there for those in distress. Learn More
In 2020, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that men working in construction have one of the highest suicide rates compared to other industries -
about four times higher than the general population. Employers are encouraged to participate in a Suicide Prevention Safety Stand-Down, Sept. 6-10, to raise awareness about the unique challenges construction workers face. Learn More

In-Person Classes: Physical distancing and other safety guidelines are followed in all In-Person classes, and class sizes are reduced.
In Region IX OSHA numbered Virtual, Instructor-Led classes offered via Zoom are only available to participants located in California, Arizona, Nevada, Hawaii, Guam, American Samoa and the Northern Mariana Islands. Contact us if you are unsure if this applies to you.

The OSHA Training Institute Education Center at Chabot-Las Positas Community College District offers high quality OSHA standards-based training for construction, maritime, disaster site and general industries in Northern, Central and Southern California, Nevada, Arizona, Hawaii, Guam, American Samoa and the Northern Mariana Islands.

OSHA classes are offered as Virtual Instructor-Led Training via Zoom and also In-Person in select locations following physical distancing and other strict COVID-19 safety guidelines.
