Executive Director's Message - Jenny Berg
In February 2012 I gladly accepted an offer from the Leadership Council board to take on the role of Executive Director of Leadership Council of Human Services Executives. (Fondly called by many at that time as “L-CHEESE” due to the LCHSE acronym!). I thought this role would allow me the opportunity to get to know, and serve, the nonprofit sector in a small way. Little did I realize the profound impact you all have had on me these past 10 years! I’ve treasured the friendships I've made, and the collective impact we’ve made in our community. I’ve watched you grow your organizations, lead through great times and challenging times, and I so admire your resilience. I’ve learned from you as you’ve modeled the way, inspired a shared vision, enabled others to act, challenged the process, and encouraged the heart in true Leadership Challenge® fashion. As a result of watching and learning from all of you, we have established the Leadership Council core values shared below.

CORE VALUES

  1. Committed to building inclusive and diverse nonprofit leadership
  2. Committed to strengthening the impact and sustainability of the nonprofit community
  3. Willing to take risks AND committed to having difficult conversations
  4. Responsive to our membership's needs
  5. Inspire our sector through thought-leadership and innovation
  6. Hungry for continuous improvement

The board search committee, led by Jenn Loeb, Board Chair, is doing a wonderful job in the process of finding the next Leadership Council leader that will live up to and instill these values in the work of the Leadership Council. Over my remaining couple of months, I will continue to ensure these core values are central in all our Leadership Council decision-making. I am looking forward to reconnecting with all of you soon and hope to see you at our Securing the Future Conference on April 20, 2022, when we can all celebrate together!

Intellectual Property: What Nonprofits Need to Know
Nonprofit organizations sometimes overlook one of their most valuable assets — their intellectual property. Even nonprofits with limited budgets can take steps to protect their names, logos, and written materials from the kind of misuse that could put the organization’s finances or reputation at risk. Participants will receive a checklist to help spot issues related to their organization’s intellectual property. This seminar will answer common IP questions.
