Hello, LAWM friends!
When we explain what we do, we emphasize serving low-income people and seniors. One reason we specifically call out our work with seniors is because so many are vulnerable to abuse, scams that take away their savings, and housing insecurity.
Jonathan Tabor, a Staff Attorney with the Crime Victims Legal Assistance Project, represents seniors in all 17 of our service counties. Jonathan says, “The world is changing so much for our senior clients. Everything is fast-paced and complicated, and many everyday tasks involve rapidly changing technologies. When legal problems arise in seniors’ lives, they can be utterly terrifying – especially for seniors with diminished capacities. For me, it's extremely gratifying to step in and fight to protect their interests."
In 2021, we served 1,352 senior clients. That’s one in every six LAWM clients. This month’s newsletter highlights that work. And for our nonprofit partner organizations serving seniors, please share with your coworkers this flyer explaining LAWM’s advocacy for seniors.
