Our Savior's Lutheran Church Presentation

The event was sponsored by OSLC WELCA and eleven participants from OSLC were in attendance. Jilayne, an ESL instructor, shared that she teaches newcomers at the beginning level. The OSLC environment makes her and the students feel comfortable and welcomed. Bonnie, the Program Director, provided us with an overview of the many services available to students; whereas Anne, the Literacy Coordinator, shared ways in which folks can become tutors. She emphasized that anyone can be trained to be a tutor and the council will match tutors and students according to interests and needs. Wali, a current student of TLC, spoke of his arrival in the U.S. from Pakistan just as Covid restrictions fell into place. He shared that he couldn’t even make a phone call because he could not speak a word of English. Now, Wali and his wife are part-time employed and continue to study English. Wali claimed the Literacy Council is a blessing and he tells others about how it truly made a difference in his life. TLC was very happy to be part of this event and we hope our amazing services will be shared so we can make an impact on more lives.

Facebook Live Event

We participated in a Facebook Live with Workforce Connection to talk about our services at TLC.
