School News You Can Use
Three things you need to know:
  1. Next week's schedule: Monday - LS day; Tuesday - 78 day; Wednesday - 56 day; Thursday - 34 day; Friday - 12 day
  2. Students in Quarantine/Isolation will be able to listen to a live broadcast of their class via Zoom or Google Meet and attend after-school tutoring with the Remote Synchronous Support Group. Guidance and support will be shared with such families by the District 113 COVID response team and counselors.
  3. SHIELD testing is available to all students and staff each week on Monday and Thursday in J108 from 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM. All students currently participating in extracurriculars, regardless of vaccination status, must complete SHIELD testing this week (January 3-7) and have a negative test result to resume participation. Students will then need to test next week (January 10-14) to remain eligible.

Support for Students in Quarantine/Isolation
Dr. Law’s email from January 3 provided details about support for students in quarantine/isolation. The following summary provides further clarification:

  • Students in Quarantine/Isolation will be able to listen to a live broadcast of their class via Zoom or Google Meet.
  • This option is intended for students who are absent due to the Covid ten-day quarantine/isolation. It is not intended to be hybrid/simultaneous instruction.
  • Students who choose this option must contact their teacher for the Zoom/Google Meet Link. 24-hour notice is necessary.
  • The Zoom/Google Meet option is just to listen, not to participate. Teachers and the class are not interacting with the students listening in and students will not have their cameras on.
  • Teachers will have the camera facing the board or class or whatever "direction" seems appropriate. Teachers are not expected to relocate cameras during the class period.
  • There is no expectation that assessments will be given virtually. Teachers will work with students regarding making up missed assessments.
  • Teachers do not have individual microphones and the sound may not necessarily be clear.
  • Students listening to the class via this option will not be marked present. Students in Quarantine/Isolation, as designated by the District 113 COVID response team, already have attendance submitted via the attendance office.
  • Students will also be offered after-school tutoring support via our Remote Synchronous Support Group. Details are provided by the student's counselor.
Counseling Corner
As a reminder, students are encouraged to see their school counselor, who can support them academically and with personal wellness.

Making an Appointment with Your School Counselor:
Students can access their school counselor's calendar through the student's Counselor folder in Schoology. Students can utilize their free periods, off-labs, and passing periods to schedule a meeting.

SHIELD Testing
As a reminder, all students currently participating in extracurriculars, regardless of vaccination status, must complete SHIELD testing this week (January 3-7) and have a negative test result to resume participation. Students will then need to test next week (January 10-14) to remain eligible. A decision has not yet been made about the week of January 17.

At DHS, SHIELD testing is available on Monday and Thursday from 7 a.m. - 5 p.m. in J108.

*SHIELD testing is taking place in the West Gym on Thursday, January 6 due to higher volumes of testers. We plan to return to J108 next week unless otherwise noted.
