Dear Residents -

On Monday, there will be a special Town Board meeting to authorize the issuance of a $22 million bond for construction of the new Town Hall building. This project, which was started by former Town Supervisor Chris Day, has been in the works for several years and it is not something the Town Board takes lightly. The unfortunate fact is that the existing building has long exceeded its useful life and it is costing the taxpayers by having to pay for expensive repairs and maintenance, with the risk of a failure of a major system, such as the HVAC or roof, at any given time. The plans for the new building can be viewed HERE.

I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to Commander John Antonucci and all of the members of the Raymond W. DeMeola VFW Post 1615 for their years of service to Camp Shanks. These men have given up a lot of their time to create the museum as we know it today but feel it is time to turn over the responsibility to someone else. With Camp Shanks due to open up on weekends starting in June, we are asking if there are any local veterans or historians who would volunteer to give tours at our beloved museum. If you are interested (the VFW promises to help), please e-mail Veteran@Orangetown.com and put Camp Shanks in the subject line. I thank you in advance for your help, it is much appreciated.

As we end the week, please say a prayer for the people of Ukraine and for peace across the world.

Respectfully,
Teresa M. Kenny
