The United Way of Lincoln County is hosting an online, Silent Auction where YOU can bid your way to beautiful Antigua, Barbados, Panama, or St. Lucia for less than it would cost to purchase the vacation outright.

We realize COVID is affecting everyone's travel plans, but these trips have a "book by" date of 12/20/2022! So, you can travel now or later depending on your choice. You can choose an adult only package or choose to get away with the family!

HELP SAVE VOCA FUNDING!
The Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) was signed into law in 1984 and was created to assist and compensate victims and survivors of crime which includes the victims of child abuse that the Lincoln County Child Advocacy Center serve. One of the most underrated but important aspects of the bill is that the funding comes from federal criminal fines, forfeitures, and special assessments, but, not from tax dollars!
We need every member of the Children’s Advocacy Centers of North Carolina (CACNC), multidisciplinary team (MDT) members, and supporters to help us reach out to Congress about Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) funding, which is in danger of serious and long-term cuts unless we act as a movement to stop it.

The situation is dire! Federal grants to victim services through the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) decreased by 35% last year on top of a 25% decrease the previous year, and further drastic cuts are expected. In North Carolina, due to the funding structure, CACs received more than a 65% funding cut in this most recent grant cycle.


Here is what we need all Child Advocacy supporters to do:
Send an email to your representative and your senators. If you don’t know who they are, you can look them up using the information below.  Use as the subject line: “Constituent request on critical VOCA funding”.

FUN IDEAS: Pot O' Gold Guessing Game
Put a seasonal spin on the "guess how many jellybeans are in the jar" game by putting chocolate gold coins in a decorated pot. You can then charge a few dollars per guess, and the person who has the closest guess to the actual number of coins wins a prize (or even just all the chocolate!). This is a fun and casual way to raise money that can be done over a number of days, with a sweet reward at the end.

FUN IDEAS:
Clover Draw

Who will be lucky enough to pick the four-leaf clover from the box of standard three-leaf varieties? Take the time to cut out a bunch of not-so-lucky shamrocks, but make sure to craft one lucky one with four. Buyers can pay $1 and try their luck at the draw. Fill a box or a jar with a number of cutouts in the shape of regular three-leaf clovers, but include one that has four leaves. Participants can pay a set amount to try their luck (get it?) at grabbing the four-leaf clover, which could win them a prize.
‘Price is Right’ Fundraising Event to Make Its Virtual Debut!
The Virtual Debut will be March 19 via Facebook!
Instead of saying ‘come on down,’ this year the Lincoln County Coalition Against Child Abuse & Advocacy Center is inviting the public to ‘go online’ to fight child abuse in our community. This year’s event will be fully online, a change from the usual live and in-person interactive event that had to be reimagined due to COVID-19. Tickets include access to an online auction and the chance to be randomly selected as a virtual contestant. All proceeds benefit Lincoln County Coalition Against Child Abuse & Child Advocacy Center.

This popular event benefits the Lincoln County Coalition Against Child Abuse and Child Advocacy Center located in Lincolnton, NC. While this year’s show will be different, there will still be opportunities for ticket holders to win cash, bid on some amazing items, and see some of the show’s favorite characters, including Rod Roddy, Barker’s Special Beauties, and The Lincoln County Apple Queen.

Tickets for the event are $20 each and include access to the online auction, where they can bid on fabulous items, including artwork, furniture, tools, a beach vacation, air hockey table, Easter baskets, small appliances, household items. Other items up for bid include a full orthodontic package from Austin Orthodontics valued at $7,000 as well as gift baskets and gift certificates from local businesses, local art, and a variety of homemade items provided by people in the community.
 
Three lucky auction ticket holders will be randomly selected to virtually play the much-loved Plinko game for a chance to win up to $1,000 each. Winners will have their Plinko games played on their behalf by one of the show’s characters in a prerecorded video that will be uploaded to the Facebook event page at 6 pm on March 19.  

The Lincoln County Coalition Against Child Abuse and Child Advocacy Center provides Lincoln County with programs designed to protect children from abuse and to provide care for the smallest victims of abuse. In 2020, 2,163 children were reported as abused or neglected in Lincoln County. Without the support of a caring community of both businesses and individuals who attend these events, the Lincoln County Coalition Against Child Abuse and Child Advocacy Center would cease to exist.
Sponsored by First Federal Bank, the 15th Annual Price is Right for Fighting Child Abuse fundraiser is set to make its virtual debut Friday, March 19, 2021, with a special prerecorded video featuring the show’s favorite characters.

Marsha Ivey
Marsha Ivey, owner of Magic Cleaners in Lincoln County began serving on the Board of Directors for the United Way (UWLC) on July 08, 2015. Shortly after joining the board of director's Marsha began serving on the UW Allocation Committee.
Marsha has been active on the United Way of Lincoln County board, shown by her willingness to serve at the Asbury Resource Center (UWLC) Day of Action. Recently Marsha spent the afternoon with the previous store manager, Franky Mendez, from the Denver Publix Store putting together shelving at the West Lincoln Food Distribution Center. Marsha served on the 2019 Gala Committee as well as the 2019 Luncheon Committee. Marsha didn't just stop there, she offered her time and resources to dry-clean and launder prom dresses for teens who could not afford a prom dress; this was done in partnership with the Asbury Resource Center at Asbury Academy. Each year, the United Way Teenboard would hold a free prom dress giveaway at the Asbury Resource Center on the first Saturday in March, and Marsha helped make sure the teens had a great collection of dresses to browse. She has been a great asset to the United Way and our community. Marsha continues to contribute to the leadership circle for the United Way and we are very grateful for all she does. If you get a chance, drive through Magic Cleaners and tell her thank you for her service!
