EA Directors’ and LGLA Forums Postponed
Due to the significant rise in COVID-19 cases in BC, the Electoral Area Directors’ Forum has been postponed. The re-scheduled event will take place on April 5 - April 6 at the Radisson Hotel Vancouver Airport in Richmond, BC. The LGLA Forum will immediately follow from April 6-8 at the same location. New role for local governments proposed under Accessible B.C. Act
The provincial government has advised that it plans to move forward with a regulation under the Accessible B.C. Act in September 2022 that would identify local governments as a prescribed organization under Part 3 of that Act. Local governments will be required to establish an accessibility committee, have an accessibility plan and have a mechanism for providing feedback on accessibility. Read more

UBCM’s Executive has updated its policies that relate to the resolutions database on our website to set the scope for the database to provide the most recent 20 years of resolutions. Read more
CMHC call for ideas
The Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation has issued a call for ideas for two new federal housing initiatives: A Housing Accelerator Fund and a Rent-to-Own Program. The Housing Accelerator Fund was announced in the Liberal platform as a $4 Billion fund to remove barriers and help local governments build housing more quickly. The Rent-to-Own program would make it easier for renters to work towards homeownership. Ideas can be submitted by local governments and others, until January 31, 2022.
