Earlier this week I found myself at the County of Humboldt's Planning and Building Department to pick up some permits for our house repairs and I stumbled across the new Humboldt ADU Guidebook (video below). I was pleasantly surprised to find such an in-depth and detailed resource because ADU's are one of the most popular topics of conversation I have with clients. Some of the most useful tidbits were: a step by step process of creating and building an ADU, as well as design and building cost breakdowns and permit & fee information. I should clarify that this guidebook is specifically geared towards properties within the county of Humboldt's jurisdiction (I.E. outside of the Eureka city limits, Arcata city limits etc) but there are still tons of insight to be gleamed if you do live within city limits.
