September 2021
Compatriots,

I hope everyone had an enjoyable summer and is ready to begin preparing for our year end dues collection and reconciliation reporting. During the summer months we were able to process 26 new member applications, 1 junior, and 26 supplemental applications.

I am looking forward to our Fall Board of Managers meeting November 4-7th. The meeting registration form will be online very soon. In the meantime, you can make your hotel reservation by calling the Mission Inn at 1-800-843-7755. The CASSAR special room rate is $159.00 per night if you reference the 146th Annual California Society Sons of the American Revolution Board of Managers Meeting.

Chapter Secretary training via Zoom will begin on Wednesday September 8 and continue the 2nd Wednesday of each month thru the end of this year. Please contact Fred Schuster our State Secretary for the meeting link and more information.

I hope to see you in November.

Brian Stephens

Congratulations!  Welcome to the California Society, Sons of the American Revolution. We are honored that you have elected to join our society of descendants of those patriots and heroes who gave us our freedoms. The California Society conducts many patriotic, historical, and educational programs in our communities, and we rely heavily on our member volunteers to keep them strong and vibrant.

If you haven’t yet been, you will shortly be contacted by a representative of your chapter; I urge you to meet your fellow compatriots, join them in their chapter programs, and become an active member of your chapter and state society. I am looking forward to meeting and working with you in the future.

D. Craig Anderson, Executive Vice President, California Society

The September session will cover the changes to the NSSAR web site home page that affect the work of chapter secretaries. Fred will also give an overview on the 2022 dues reconciliation process. At the recent Congress held in Renton, WA, our newly installed President, General Davis Wright, stated the 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution would be one of his top priorities.  This endeavor is not a standalone project as there is now an America250 Organization commissioned by the US Congress to make the 250th Anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence the largest celebration this country has ever had.

This SAR celebratory period is to cover those events related directly to acts of resistance to British attempts to coerce the residents in America: from the first Parliamentary Acts protested after the conclusion of the French and Indian Wars, through the armed struggle of the American War for Independence, to the ratification of the Treaty of Paris by the Continental Congress.  The American 250th SAR Committee has put together a chronological list of those events on their website…and there are many!

This period is of such significance to our society that there is a new medal series in Bronze, Silver and Gold appropriately called the 250th Anniversary Medal.  Unlike most medals, this one must be earned by achieving points.  The instructions for these points are on the NSSAR website, soon to be on the CASSAR website. In short, points are awarded for participating in an event (i.e.: meetings, parades, anniversary celebrations, etc.) that educates and/or celebrates those events identified as part of our Revolutionary war history.

To help in providing opportunities for such points, CASSAR is currently seeking to engage partners who already present such meetings that educate its audience on the Revolutionary time period.  When such partnerships occur, you will be informed of those meetings in case you would like to attend and earn points towards your 250thAnniversary Medal.

We are in a very special time of our Society’s history.  SAR has a unique opportunity reminding this country of those who made it possible for all of us to enjoy this great nation.  As the entire nation will get involved, one way or another, this is the best time to show who we are.  Everyone will be coming to this anniversary celebration.  Make sure you are a part of it!

For further information on CASSAR’s America250 please contact Co-chairs Lou Carlson and John Ferris.
The National Society, requires that all members who participate in SAR youth and education programs that interface with students under the age of 18, successfully complete SAR Youth Protection Training. We had formerly utilized the training offered by the Boy Scouts of America, but subsequently, the SAR has developed its own training program that is geared specifically to the programs that we conduct. The process is very simple; the training can be taken on-line in about 20 minutes, and the certificate is valid for three years.

Cyber Scams
If you receive an email from a purported Compatriot in need of help that is unsigned, with no personal contact information seeking contributions to any type of fundraising site; or an email ad-dressing you by name from another member of your Chapter requesting the expenditure of funds or the purchase of gift cards consider it a hoax. These messages are getting more sophisticated and may even include the unauthorized use of the SAR logo and/or a pseudo SAR email address.
