Happy New Year to All and
Happy 60th Birthday to WPSBA!
We're celebrating this milestone with a series of back to the basics reminders of board governance issues. Look for our emails in your inbox!
CAN WE BREACH THE FIREWALL ON UNFUNDED MANDATES THIS YEAR?
NY STATE LEGISLATORS WILL BE IN THE HOUSE (virtually)! We, the people, will have a chance to hear from our local legislators on budget issues as WPSBA teams up with the Putnam/Northern and Southern Westchester Chief School Administrators to share our public ed advocacy priorities. Join the virtual Legislative Forum on February 3rd (7pm - 9pm), where we will have our say in how resources should be allocated during this time of economic recovery (stay tuned for more info on individual virtual roundtables with your district's state legislators).
A BELIEF THAT EVERY STUDENT CAN SUCCEED
PREPARING AMERICA'S KIDS TO SUCCEED in the innovation arena (a.k.a. the future) is a passion for the speaker at this year's Regional Symposium sponsored by LHCSS, DCSBA, RCSBA and WPSBA (Jan. 20th, 6:30pm - 8:00pm). With glowing reviews from Superintendents and CEOs across the country, Ted Dintersmith expounds on taking this singular moment in time and making it transformative for education. Using his power as a philanthropist, Ted is making a positive impact on education, so don't miss this Fireside Chat facilitated by White Plains Superintendent Joseph Ricca (sign up through your District Clerk - attendees will receive a copy of Ted's book).
CAN GOVERNOR HOCHUL KEEP HER PROMISES TO PUBLIC ED?
PLEDGING A HEALTHIER RELATIONSHIP WITH the legislature in her State of State address, Governor Hochul announced plans to focus on teacher shortages and increase funding for K-12 education. The new Governor vowed that she wants to support New York's students and teachers. Her plans include incentivizing more teachers to work here, accelerating the teacher certification process, providing mental health grants, and more.
