Update on the MS 104 Administrative Team
It is with great excitement that I announce that Ms. Lyndsay Boelsen has been elevated to the position of Assistant Principal, Interim Acting. Ms. Boelsen has been an integral part of the 104 community and has made many contributions to our school during her time with us. Ms. Boelsen spent her first five years at MS 104 as a grade six ELA teacher. She has spent the past two years serving as our school's instructional coach, which involved supporting the teaching staff across content areas in consistently strengthening our practices in working with our students. Ms. Boelsen has also worked on revamping our advisory program, allowing for smaller advisory group sizes and a curriculum that is more responsive to the needs of our students. Throughout her time with us, Ms. Boelsen has demonstrated strong leadership, exceptional instructional knowledge, and a spirit of collaboration with staff, students and families.
I hope you will join me in welcoming Ms. Boelsen to her new position!
Programming Update
It is with great pleasure that I announce that we have reinstituted our STEM elective course! This course is focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics and serves as a supplemental class to our core science and math classes. Troy Parish will be teaching this course, and I hope you will join me in welcoming Troy to our school community!

First Day of School is Thursday, September 7th!!!
All students are due back to school this Thursday, September 7th. The protocols for students are as follows:
GRADE 6- Grade six students should arrive to school beginning at 8:30 AM. Please be advised that the 8:30 AM start time is only for the first day of school. Beginning Friday, September 8th, students should arrive to the schoolyard by 8:20 AM. Students should report to the entrance to our schoolyard located at the corner of 20th street and Second Avenue. Upon arrival at this entry point, your child will be informed of their homeroom and directed to the appropriate homeroom line in the schoolyard. We encourage families dropping off their child to make note of their child's homeroom assignment. Parents escorting their children will not be permitted in to the yard. Homeroom teachers will be in the yard to greet their students. Once all students have arrived to their class, they will be taken to their homeroom classroom by the homeroom teacher. Students will receive their schedules from their homeroom teacher.
The day ends for all students at 2:40 PM. At the end of the day, sixth grade students will be dismissed in to the school yard. Parents will be able to access the yard via the entry point on the corner of 20th street and Second Avenue. Homeroom teachers will hold up a sign indicating the homeroom number as they exit. Please ensure that you have discussed your plan with your child if you plan on picking them up. The first few days of dismissal tend to be very busy so ensure that you have communicated with your child where you will be waiting for them.
GRADES 7 & 8- Grade seven and eight students should arrive to school by 8:20 AM.
Grade seven students will line up each day at the 20th street entrance of the building, with the line going towards Second Avenue.
Grade eight students will line up each day at the main entrance on 21st street.
Grade seven and eight students will report to LAST YEAR'S homeroom classroom to start the day. They will then receive their new homeroom assignment for this year. An announcement will then be made for students to transition to their new homeroom. Students will receive their schedules from their new homeroom teacher.
Grade seven and eight students will be dismissed out the exit point closest to their homeroom class at 2:40 PM. If you plan on picking up your child, please discuss in advance where you will meet them at dismissal.
As a reminder, middle school students are SELF-DISMISSED at the end of each day. Parental consent is not needed for students to go home on their own.
Staff members will be available to support new and returning students and families as they arrive to school to direct students to the appropriate entry points and ensure a smooth start to the day.

Cell Phone Policy for the 2023-24 School Year

Cell phones, smart watches, airpods, bluetooth headphones, and other electronic and gaming systems may not be used on school grounds during the school day at any time. Upon arrival to school, students will place and lock their electronic devices in a Yondr pouch which will be in their possession throughout the day. The pouch will be unlocked at the end of the day via the magnetic locks at the exit points of the building.
Please take time to review the policy with your child. The policy outlines the expectations and process for storing electronic devices each day and addresses actions that will be taken when students violate this policy.
We appreciate your cooperation and partnership regarding this policy.

Es con gran entusiasmo que anuncio que la Sra. Lyndsay Boelsen ha sido ascendida al puesto de subdirectora interina. La Sra. Boelsen ha sido una parte integral de la comunidad 104 y ha hecho muchas contribuciones a nuestra escuela durante su tiempo con nosotros. La Sra.
