Dear 8th Grade Parents/Guardians,
The end of the year is upon us and this letter is to inform you of important dates, guidelines and expectations regarding end of the year events for our 8th grade students. Please read this letter carefully, as it contains important information regarding 8th Grade Graduation, and APT sponsored Class of '21 Celebration.
The last official full day for 8th grade is Thursday, May 27th. 8th graders who ordered a yearbook will receive their yearbook that day during their homeroom. AVA families will be able to pick-up their 8th graders yearbook that week. Additional information regarding yearbook distribution will be shared at a later date.
Friday, May 28th is a half day with asynchronous learning. The Class of 2021 Celebration will be on Friday, May 28th, in the afternoon! There will be a DJ, ice cream truck, inflatable zip line, DPM Admin in dunk tanks....and more! The event will be outside and adhere to current district guidelines. More details to come, including exact timing the afternoon of the 28th! The 8th Grade Committee is also putting together a slideshow for the class. Please email two pictures, one from kindergarten and another from 8th grade to DPM2021@outlook.com. While things look different this year, there is still so much to celebrate! Be on the lookout for a google form next week with some key information!
This year, the 8th Grade graduation ceremony will be held on Tuesday, June 1st at 5pm with a rain date of Wednesday, June 2nd at 5pm. The ceremony will be held behind Deer Path School on a portion of the Recreation Center field. The ceremony will be a socially distanced, outdoor event that will adhere to all CDC and state approved guidelines for Phase 4 gatherings. As a result, this ceremony will accommodate both Hybrid and AVA 8th grade students. IF THERE IS INCLEMENT WEATHER AND OUR RAIN DATE IS NEEDED, PLEASE WATCH FOR AN EMAIL ON TUESDAY JUNE 1ST BY 12 NOON.
Each graduate is allowed 2 guests for the graduation ceremony. Guest seating will be set up with 2 seats per pod, and pods will be spaced 6 feet apart. An email with Covid-19 self-certification instructions will be sent to each 8th grade parent email address on file. This email will be sent the morning of June 1st and guests must complete the self certification prior to attending the ceremony. This self-certification must be filled out by 8am on Tuesday, June 1st for entry to the ceremony. One self-certification entry will cover both students and guests. Graduates and guests will not be able to enter without the self-certification. This certification will be the family's confirmation and entry into the parking lot and event. Additionally, all guests and graduates must wear a mask during the ceremony. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the ceremony there will be no professional photographer present to take pictures of the event, however more information on picture opportunities will be forthcoming. All parking will be located behind Deer Path. ACCESS TO THE BACK PARKING LOT PRIOR TO 4:30PM WILL NOT BE ALLOWED. Students and guests may start arriving at 4:30pm. Upon arrival please take your seats. Graduate seats will be labeled in alphabetical order and will face the stage spaced 6 feet apart.
We greatly appreciate your partnership and look forward to the opportunity to celebrate our students success at the end of the year. Should you have any questions prior to the ceremony, please contact Linda Crowe at 847-234-6039 or lcrowe@lfschools.net
Sincerely,
Thomas Herion & Renee Fitzsimmons
