Greetings!

Our next regular LCM will be held Monday, January 18th from 9:30AM to 11:30AM. Please plan to attend via Zoom. Zoom logon information is shown below. We will have two guests at the meeting:

  • 9:30AM – 10:00AM - Dennis Valentine – Dennis is on the AARP legislative Committee and is a member of CSL. He will be speaking about AARP priorities for this session.
  • 10:00AM – 10:30AM - Representative Brianna Titone – House District 27 (D)
  • Bob Brocker and Rich Mauro will review the recent three-day session and share updates on CSL bills and what the Joint Budget Committee (JBC) is up to during the next month
Below we have an update from Governor Polis on the COVID Response, along with information on upcoming events both from CSL and other organizations.
 
  • As a reminder, on Wednesday, January 27th we are hosting Chris Farrell, author of "Purpose & A Paycheck." Chris will walk our attendees through those expanding possibilities for the “next” phase of life. Is it time to retire the word “Retirement”? - Reserve your place today

MLK Tech-a-thon from A Little Help
A Little Help will have a group of volunteers standing by on Monday, January 18th from 9AM to noon, to answers any questions (big or small, silly or not silly) that you may have about using your phone, ipad, computer, printer, etc. They are calling this the MLK Tech-a-thon. There will be 12 volunteers handling the calls, so give them a ring. It may be a question that can be answered in 2 minutes or one that will take 30. ALL of which are okay to ask.
The following numbers are available from 9AM to noon on Monday, January 18th, MLK Day. The volunteers may route you to another volunteer to help, so they can continue to answer calls that come in.

Office of Governor Jared Polis – COVID Response Update 1-15-2021
"... Governor Polis provided an update on our state’s vaccine supply expected to come from the federal government. This week, the Trump administration made false claims that the federal government was holding a stockpile of second doses of the vaccine — hundreds of thousands, that would be delivered to states. The State was disappointed to learn that, in fact, there are no significant additional doses coming to Colorado at this time ..."

A Letter to Colorado Seniors About COVID-19 Vaccines
This letter has consolidated the hospital provider information that has been shared the last two weeks during press conferences. We know this is only one piece of the puzzle, but it is a big piece. For now, the hospitals are focusing on their patients and are expected to broaden that scope as they ramp up vaccinations. For example, Denver Health is hoping to expand to their community health centers for administration - however the timeline for this is still unclear. Polis Administration Releases New Prescription Drug Report
"... the Colorado Department of Health Care Policy & Financing (the Department) released the 2nd edition of Reducing Prescription Drug Costs in Colorado - Cost Drivers and Solutions to Address Them. One of the key findings in the report is that less than 2-percent of the drugs being prescribed to Coloradans are so expensive, they are driving nearly 50-percent of total prescription drug expenditures. Without federal price controls, manufacturers are bringing drugs to market at prices that are unsustainable and then using their lobbying power and patent lawyers to impede competition from generic manufacturers that would help reduce prices ..."

COVID-19 Phase 1 Update on Vaccine Prioritization from the State of Colorado
We have a link to a PowerPoint from the State of Colorado that explains the prioritization philosophy from the state of Colorado in regard to vaccine distribution. Basically, the focus in determining prioritization has been based on: "How we can save the most lives," and "Ending the crisis that has been brought on by the pandemic as quicky as possible."

Partnering organizations serving older adults in Colorado are joining together to celebrate older adults the week of February 8th as Older Coloradans Week in Colorado! We will have five webinars over three-days that explore lawmaking and citizen advocacy in 2021, issues impacting older Coloradans in diversified communities, Colorado - specific statistics on needs of older workers, and our fifth webinar is a review of the week’s takeaways and a call to action.

You will also learn more about two new organizations, AgeWise Colorado and Colorado Center for Aging. This is a free but donation-based week of virtual events that connects Older Coloradans, community leaders, advocates and aging network service providers with public officials. Transitions Part 1 from Boomers Leading Change
This is the first full session in our Transitions Series. We had an amazing response for our introduction on the idea of navigating transitions, and now we ready to dig deeper. The Crossroads are here, and in every direction, signs are pointing to 'CHANGE'. This is a "now what?" moment! For Transitions Part 1, we will dig deep into the concepts of the Transition Model: An Ending, The Neutral Zone, a New Beginning. This session with Life Coach Lynette Reiling will have you actively working out your own map as you prepare for your journey. This session will be Wednesday January 27th from 4:00 to 5:00 pm. As part of our Experience U, program tickets for this class are $10 per session. You can also purchase tickets for both classes at a discounted rate of $15 for both.
