Valerie Elliot Shepard Talks Available

to Stream Through November 18

St. Philip’s was so very blessed by Valerie Elliot Shepard’s visit last week!

The daughter of missionaries Elisabeth and Jim Elliot and a missionary herself, Shepard spoke on the legacy of her parents at the ECW Fall Dinner on October 18, and she returned the next day with her husband, Walt Shepard, to speak to all adults about passing on the legacy of faith to the next generation.

Both talks were livestreamed and recorded, and they will be available to watch on our YouTube channel through November 18. Watch, rewatch, and share today!

ECW Dinner: "The Legacy of My Parents"
Bonus Session: "Passing on the Legacy of Faith to the Next Generation"

Next Wednesday: Monthly Men's Lunch

The Gaze of Jesus

by Tammy Gottshalk, World Missions Committee

In Honduras, there is a new building under construction at LAMB which we are calling Mirada de Jesus: the Gaze of Jesus. This building, located close to the campus of God’s Littlest Lambs Children’s Home, will soon be home to a group of young people with special needs who have grown up as part of the LAMB family.

Most of the children who grow up at God’s Littlest Lambs Children’s Home will eventually take part in LAMB’s Transition Program, which teaches life skills to young adults 18 to 20 years old to prepare them for living independently outside the Children’s Home as adults. But these children with special needs are those whom we’ve always known would likely never be able to live independently. And they are now approaching age 18. In Honduras, you are not allowed to have children under 18 and children over 18 in the same children’s home, and so we have realized that a special place would be needed for them. Mirada de Jesus is that special place.

Singing and More at St. Philip’s

Children’s Choir Rehearsals

Ella Gochnauer arrived at a recent St. Cecilia Choir rehearsal with her Bible in hand and shared, “I want to bring my Bible every week so we can learn verses together.” Absolutely keep bringing your Bible, Ella!

In fact, one aspect of rehearsals is learning about the Scripture the choir anthems are based on. Heather Dawson, who helps lead rehearsals, was teaching the children about Joshua and the Battle of Jericho, and she asked the choir, “Where is Jericho?” Chorister Catherine Graham replied, “It’s in God’s hands.”

Canterbury Choir parents, remember to let Zippy Hood know before end of day tomorrow, October 27,  whether you and your chorister(s) will travel to Canterbury and London next summer: zhood@stphilipschurchsc.org or (854) 429-1942.

Spooky Season

It was all treats and no tricks yesterday when a huge crowd of toddler-sized sharks, lions, princesses, garbage men, rocket ships, and more made their way through the church office.

Some were reluctant to take candy from the strangers looming above them, while others happily took handful after handful (which is still not that much candy...their hands are small!)––some even picked up candy from one staffer's bowl to put in another's!

The preschool staff and our own sexton-in training, Cecilia Walchesky (the ghost pictured above––she works part-time and goes to school) did a fantastic job making sure all the kiddos got their allotment and stayed in order...if you'd seen this crowd, you'd understand what a feat that was!

If you follow St. Philip's on Facebook and Instagram, then you already knew about the visitors we had yesterday. But if this is the first you're hearing of them, don't you think you should take a moment right now to follow us so that you can be among the first to hear about upcoming events, weather-related schedule updates, and spooky breaking news?
