A Message from Nicole

Happy fall, friends! As we celebrate cooler temperatures and the heartwarming return to in-person to gatherings, let’s make our fall events the best they can be!

Check out our diverse array of in-person and virtual events planned into December. Let’s consider how we can maximize the potential of each and intentionally demonstrate our Impact Austin values of inclusivity, empathy, curiosity, and impact.

Of course, we all want to greet the friends and colleagues we’ve cultivated within Impact Austin. But let’s reach out, too! Invite someone new to an Impact Austin gathering. At the next event, introduce yourself to someone you don’t already know. Encourage a new member to sit with you or join your conversation. Invite a new or potential member to a Zones activity. Your new best friend may be the next person you’ll meet through Impact Austin!

Membership

Recruitment

Impact Austin welcomes new members all year, but fall recruitment is a beloved tradition. Members who join by December 31 will help to fund our Spring 2023 grants and will also be eligible for that season’s GRC service.

In-person Membership Info Session will be offered Nov 10 in a member's home within the 78704 zip code. Another in-home Info Session comes up on Dec 1 in the Mueller area. Members, consider inviting a friend or colleague to join you at one of these, or at a Zones Event, or at Town Hall. Non-members curious to know more about us, please register to attend an Info Session. Two Zoom events detailed below are also great opportunities for anyone to learn more about Impact Austin.

Meet The Board - Oct 24

This virtual event is open to all and always popular. Non-member guests will learn more about Impact Austin in general and our leadership in particular. Impact Austin members might explore their own interest in board service. Presenters are Board President Katherine Mudge and Governance Chair Simone Talma Flowers. Other Board members will join the event, too. Breakout sessions will provide opportunities for Q&A. Register here.

New Member Orientation - Oct 27

Are you a new member? Not a member yet, but curious about Impact Austin? Or even an existing member wondering WHAT’S NEW? This virtual orientation is for you! Co-hosts Robin Krumme and Audra Morris will help you navigate the website, our volunteer and leadership opportunities, and upcoming events. Invite a friend; this event is open to all.

Zones

All we can say is WOW! The Zones team has something or everyone!

·       Hands-On Volunteer Session - Central Texas Food Bank (Nov 18)

·       Food & Fun - National Pizza Month (Oct 25 & 27) and Happy Hour & Shopping (Dec 1)

·       Culture - Guided Walking Tour of the Texas State Cemetery (Nov 9)

Thank you to Tonya Netzley, Robin Krumme, Margaret Ballinger, and Lisa Warne-Magro, all of whom would welcome you to the Zones team. If you enjoy brainstorming and organizing exceptional events and opportunities for members, reach out! You’ll love this group of fun and creative women.

Volunteers Needed

New members and returning members alike – we need more womanpower! Every committee and every event would welcome you with grateful arms. Roles and time commitments vary, but there is something for everyone. Submit your interests and availability here

* For the "I can help out once or twice a year" member - you might assist with an event; we have signature events in fall, winter, and late spring and recruitment events throughout the year.

* For the "I have pockets of availability here and there" member - you might be perfect with technology or a webinar or writing or PR or Annual Meeting or admin assistance or recruitment.

* For the "I'm ready to engage more deeply" volunteers, every committee has a spot or leadership option open to you – a few examples are the Grants team, Girls Giving Grants, DEIB, and Advancement.

Board Nominations Open

Impact Austin is currently accepting Board nominations. We welcome diverse leadership that helps us to better understand and address issues facing our communities. Board nominees must be members or intended members. More information, and nominations and self-nominations, are found here.

Grantmaking

Vote for Fall 2022 Grants: Nov 2-10

Later this week, finalists will be named for Equity Grants and Health & Well-Being Grants totaling $188,400 for both categories. Member voting will open Nov 2 -10, and awards will be announced at Town Hall Meeting on Nov 15.

All the materials and links needed for voting will be emailed to members.

Girls Giving Grants

Girls Giving Grants (g3) will accept applications for their award until November 4 at 5:00 PM. Thanks in part to a 2021 grant from a family foundation (see details here), g3 has $8,400 to award in Spring 2023. Currently g3 membership includes 50 girls in grades 8-12.

Let's Celebrate 20 Extraordinary Years

Founder Rebecca Powers offered a soft launch of our 20th Anniversary by inviting founding directors and long-time members to a “Founder’s Coffee” at member-owned Antonelli’s Cheese House. If you’ve been in Impact Austin for any time at all, you know that a “coffee” event serves wine; this celebration was no exception.

We’re celebrating the anniversary within our blog, too. Read about Rebecca Powers and the Kitchen Table Six in the first article of our series. More recent articles feature other fabulous members and also the many ways that Impact Austin shapes our personal philanthropy.

Town Hall Meeting 2022 - Nov 15

It’s a Signature Event, a grant awards ceremony, and a gathering that celebrates Impact Austin friendships – all in one! Let’s meet at Temple Beth Shalom, where we last convened our Annual Meeting. Register and bring a friend to introduce her to Impact Austin!

Since Town Hall is the first major event of our 20th anniversary year, we’re starting with some pizazz!

You'll hear about $20,000 to celebrate 20 years in details coming soon.
