Tuesday, Oct. 25 | Drop-In Discussion: Is your mailbox littered with donation requests?

How have you decided which ones to respond to? Our personal budgets speak loudly about our own priorities and values. It might be fun to share which causes “called us” to part with some hard-earned dollars, why, and which ones we feel good about. (In addition to our pledge to First Universalist, of course!). No proselytizing, no apologies, just sharing. Theo Munson presents. Drop-In Discussions are virtual! We meet on Tuesday nights from 6:30-7:30pm. Look on the First Universalist homepage for details and a link, or click the Zoom meeting link in this blurb title!

Small Group Ministry: Opportunities for Connection

Want to engage in meaningful conversations? Longing for deeper connection? Our Small Group Ministry (SGM) groups have openings and welcome you to join one that fits your schedule. Current groups meet in-person or virtually every other Monday or Thursday afternoons, or Wednesday evenings. Find the SGM description on our website uuroc.org by clicking on the "Connect" tab, then "Small Group Ministry". Or email Rev. Michelle at SGM@uuroc.org.

Lane-Mairead for 6 weeks of exploring death, dying, and mortality. We will talk about witnessing the deaths of others, preparing for our own deaths, and engaging resources around grief. Class meets in-person on Wednesdays at 10:30am beginning November 2 and running through December 14. To register, please email minister@uuroc.org.

Nov. 5 | Calling All Leaders! First Universalist Leadership Assembly

All Committee Chairs, Team Leaders, and anyone interested in leadership are welcome! Please RSVP to office@uuroc.org if you would like to attend! If you have any questions, contact Steve Munson at stephenmunson@mac.com.

Sunday, Nov. 6 | In-Church Drop-In Discussion: Charity or Justice

What should be your priority in giving of your time and money? Helping those in need, or fighting for a more just society? This will be the topic for our in-person drop-in discussion group when we meet at 9:15 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 6, in the Chalice Room. Phil Ebersole will facilitate. Everyone is welcome! Hat tip to Melissa Harris for suggesting the topic.Drop-in discussions have resumed in the Chalice Room and will continue to be held there on the first Sunday of each month.

Nov. 6 & 13 |Finance Committee News: Mini fundraiser #1 - Charlie Gibson Memorial Spare Change Drive!

HOORAY! The Charlie Gibson Memorial Spare Change Drive is back. Time to check the sofa cushions, junk drawers, old purses, and car caddy. We will be collecting your spare change— coins and bills on November 6 and 13, before and after services. For folks online— checks are welcome. Just put "Spare Change Drive" in the memo line. Reduce clutter and help our budget!

Nov. 13 | Rescheduled Book Group: "Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler

Our review selection for November is Octavia Butler's novel “Parable of the Sower”. This is a futuristic novel set between 2024 and 2027. The book can be summed up in one soulful observation: What is to become of our world? We have work to do, but we can do it. The future generations are counting on us. Please join us at noon in the Chalice Room for a lively discussion and bring book suggestions for future meetings. December’s Book is “Under a White Sky” by Elizabeth Kolbert if you want to get a head start!

Nov. 19 | Path to Membership Class

Belong to something bigger than yourself; consider membership at First Universalist. Bring your whole self and join a community committed to justice. You are invited to a Path to Membership session, please save November 19 at 10am. The session will be held in-person in the Clara Barton Lounge. We will focus on the congregation and you–offering a deeper understanding of how the congregation works and how you can be part of it. We join together not because we have a shared concept of the divine. Rather we gather knowing that life is richer in community than when we go it alone. We gather to know and be known, to comfort and be comforted, to celebrate the mystery that binds us, each to all. We welcome children and can provide fun things for them to do. We do need to know two weeks ahead of time, though, so we can be properly staffed. Please RSVP by contacting Clinton Swingle at cjswingle@pobox.com or Rev. Lane-Mairead at minister@uuroc.org.
