FEBRUARY E-NEWS
First Grants Awarded from Need is Now Fund
We are excited to announce that three grants have been awarded from the Need is Now Fund. This fund was established to help meet urgent and immediate needs that have been intensified by the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Christine Ann Domestic Abuse Services - $500 for door jammers and window alarms for women experiencing physical violence, threats of violence, and/or stalking.
  • Exceptional Equestrians - $500 for sensory integration therapy equipment that must be replaced after each riding session in order to keep riders and their families safe and healthy during COVID.
  • Sweet Adelines International-Fox Valley Chorus - $500 for technology licenses and professional services so the chorus can continue to meet and rehearse in a safe and secure environment.
Nonprofits serving women and girls are encouraged to apply for funding. Requests for specific needs where a small dollar amount will have great impact – or can be leveraged with other funders for greater impact – are ideal candidates.

Ending Discrimination -
Appleton Stands Up for Women
The Women's Fund is proud to co-sponsor CEDAW (The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Descrimination Against Women) in Appleton. CEDAW, known as “the declaration of human rights for women," is used in creating gender equity in constitutions, policy, and law.

CEDAW was passed at the UN in 1979 and has been ratified by 189 nations. Only six countries in the world have not ratified CEDAW: Sudan, Somalia, Iran, Palau, Tonga – and the United States.

To date, 42 U.S. cities have ratified CEDAW resolutions, including Madison and Milwaukee. Appleton’s efforts will empower both men and women by facilitating social, political, and economic equality.

Girls' Grantmaking Project Update
The ever-popular Girls' Grantmaking Project will be held in the fall this year. We are looking forward to offering another engaging program when it is safe to gather since much of the program's success is due to the rich discussion and relationships that are formed during the in-person workshop.
