Spring Sports Update

Middle School Baseball and Softball

Softball and Baseball seasons are rapidly approaching, with practices for both teams beginning on April 5th. Pre-season meetings for both programs will be held this coming Monday, March 29, during Intervention Block. Baseball will meet in the mini-gym, and Softball in the Library.

Have a Track & Field Athlete? Those students can contact Mr. Gannon, Mrs. Colford, or Mr. Young at school for information on being part of that program this spring.

Parents: Please make sure your student-athlete is registered through Form Releaf. Also, we will need a copy of a physical exam for your son/daughter that is no 'older' than 13 months from the current date. For example, a physical from March 5, 2020 will be good on opening day, but not the next day--I'm happy to answer any questions you have about that, I know it's complicated.

Asst. Principal / Athletic Director

Grade 8

Grade 8 had another great week of hard work!
Science has begun a weather unit! Students are reviewing the water cycle and investigating groundwater and how it all affects our local drinking water resources.

In Literacy, students are showing off their theme analysis skills in a summative assessment.

In Math, we are continuing to work with systems of equations. We have just started using the third style; “ the elimination method”. Soon the students will be applying the three methods to solve real life word problems to help figure out the best choices to make when it comes to cell phone plans, gym memberships, and saving accounts.

In Social Studies, students have begun to study Ancient Rome. Throughout the unit students will be focusing on why the empire fell by analyzing the political, social, and economic reasons. Throughout this unit students will be honing their note-taking, discussion, and short answer skills to help assist with their transition to the high school next year.

Please continue to encourage independent reading at home! As always, we thank you for the support you provide at home.

Grade 7
March 28, 2021

We had a busy week here in the 7th grade!
ELA: Students spent this past week writing the introduction and body paragraphs of their argumentative research essays. Next week, we will focus on the counterclaim paragraph, the conclusion paragraph, and the works cited page. We will also learn three more affixes – viv/vit, mort, and nat/nasc.
Social Studies: This past week students focused on disparities in the world’s resources, barter vs. using a means of exchange, and types of economies in the world today. This coming week we will focus on countries’ levels of development and students will be choosing a Latin American country to learn about. They will be investigating the country’s resources, economy type and development level.

Math: Students spent last week finishing addition of rational numbers. Some students started their summative assessments on Friday and will finish on Tuesday and the other students will begin their summative assessments on Monday. Next week as students complete their summatives, they will complete a Desmos activity and explore how to write a subtraction problem as a related addition problem. They will also use a number line tool on Desmos to model these problems.

Science: Students worked on and finished their Structure and Function summative assessment. Next week we will learn about the Gulf of Maine and the ecological changes taking place there.

Have a wonderful week :)
