The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians 15:56-57

“Winner Winner Chicken Dinner”

The origins of the famous phrase are a topic of debate. Some believe it began in back alleys during the great depression. The game of craps was a common game, while a hot meal was scarce. The victor of the game would shout, “Winner winner chicken dinner!” The loser would go hungry, but the winner could afford a meal. Others believe the famous phrase began in back lots where two cocks would fight to the death. The winner counted his winnings, while the loser was left with nothing but a dead chicken… dinner. Still, others believe winning gamblers would simply shout this phrase from the gaming tables in Las Vegas where $2 would be the common bet, but would also buy a piping hot chicken meal. No matter the origin, shouting these four words declared victory.

In his first letter to the Corinthians, the Apostle Paul declares victory too. Paul makes it clear, that we are merely mortal apart from Jesus. Paul says, “Flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God.” We are dust and to dust we will return (Gen 3:19b). We are sinners, sons of Adam, The Dust Man doomed to death on our own.

I have really good news for you today. God in His steadfast love and endless mercy, did not leave you alone to be destroyed. God loved you and sent his Son Jesus to save you. Paul says, “But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” You are victorious!

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner!

See you Sunday as we celebrate the victory given by God to us in Jesus. I can't wait!

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for the gift of victory over death through your Son Jesus. Thank you for life eternal. AMEN

The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
