Weekly News Update

August 15, 2021

On August 2, 2021 Vestry Member Jenna Kyle went to Washington, D.C. with the Poor People’s Campaign to support legislation that would benefit disenfranchised voters and low-income Americans. Jenna was among 1000 people present to gather for a rally and march - many of whom were faith leaders.

The Episcopal Church was one of the supporters of the action and the demands of the Poor People’s Campaign. Prior to the pandemic, there were 140 million poor and low-wealth individuals in this country. The number has likely increased greatly after the last year. The Poor People’s Campaign in its work speaks up for these individuals through activism, advocacy and policy change.

Jenna co-convenes the Los Angeles Poor People’s Campaign Faith Working Group which is a community for people of faith and morals to work towards social justice. Please contact the church if you would like to be connected.

Lectio Divina

with Mo. Lyn Crow

August 22 & 29, 2021 at 10:30am

There are many different types of bible study each with its own blessing. Lectio Divina is a scripture study that helps us to listen to what God might be saying to us personally in a particular passage. The African Bible Study method is a form of Lectio introduced by the African Delegation to Lambeth Conference in 1998. Come join us as Mo. Lyn helps us explore this popular study method. We will meet on August 22 and 29 at 10:30 am.

Since this class invites participants to share personal experiences, it will not be recorded. Access is restricted to participants in the St. John's community FB group, or in person.
