Calhoun County Participates in
Operation Green Lights for Veterans
County buildings throughout Calhoun County will be lit with green lights through Veterans Day on November 11, 2022, in honor of Operation Green Lights for Veterans. County Administration, our Veterans Affairs Office and Facilities Department are proud to offer this commemorative event, organized by the National Association of Counties (NACo) to support military veterans in the United States.

Residents and businesses are also encouraged to participate by simply changing the light bulb in their house or business to a green bulb. Whether an interior or exterior light, this is an opportunity to spark conversation about the resources available at the county, state, and federal levels to assist veterans and their families.

Calhoun County is home to approximately 10,000 veterans. It is also home to military organizations like the Fort Custer Training Center, Naval Operational Support Center, Battle Creek Air National Guard Base, Marine Corps Reserve Station, the Battle Creek VA Medical Center, and the Calhoun County Veterans Affairs (CCVA) Office, which all work together to provide services for veterans. CCVA is involved in annual programming with these partners, including the VA Stand Down that provides resources to homeless veterans. CCVA assists veterans with applying for and navigating VA benefits and provides financial relief through the Veterans Relief Fund and Michigan Veterans Trust Fund.

The Calhoun County Board of Commissioners will read a proclamation for Operation Green Lights for Veterans at their Thursday, Nov. 3 meeting. In addition to lighting the buildings, the County is restoring and moving its existing 1975 veterans monument and installing a new flag pole in the courtyard on the south side of the building.
