Refashioned and Reused: Textile Event Returns to Old Sturbridge Village
Learn about clothing and textile making in rural New England, Aug. 21-22, 2021

Sturbridge, M.A. – Old Sturbridge Village will celebrate its annual Textile Weekend on Saturday, Aug. 21 and Sunday, Aug. 22, this year with a new theme, Refashioned and Reused: Remaking Clothing in Rural New England. The event will highlight the frugal and ingenious ways that New England women cared for and updated their family’s clothing, demonstrating the mending, remaking, and refurbishing of period items and accessories.

Demonstrations and activities planned throughout the weekend will introduce visitors to:
- Re-dyeing clothing, re-footing stockings, and mending practices
- Sewing and bookbinding at the Printing Office
- Creation of knitting needle cases in the Tin Shop

Early 19th-century bonnet-making and ladies’ fashion
- Old Sturbridge Village costuming through the years
Pieces from the OSV Museum Collection will also be on display, including strawbraiding and children’s clothing on Saturday and mended and remade clothing from the collection on Sunday.
Annual Textile Weekend activities are included with Standard Daytime Admission, a season pass, or membership to Old Sturbridge Village. In August, up to three kids age 17 and younger are admitted FREE to the village when accompanied by an adult paying full admission. About Old Sturbridge Village
Old Sturbridge Village, first opened to the public in 1946, is one of the country's oldest and largest living history museums, celebrating life in early New England from 1790-1840. It is the largest living history museum in the Northeast, celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2021.
