Woolly Bear Caterpillars

(Pyrrharctia isabella) have a reputation for predicting the severity of the coming winter. But this is unfounded. They really don't need to be concerned about freezing temperatures since they just, well, freeze when it gets cold. In spring their blood thaws out and they spring back into action, eating almost any type of greenery they come across.
