February 18, 2022
Dear St. Louis Families,
Today is Fr. O’Hare’s 50th birthday! We made cards and have offered spiritual bouquets for well wishes, and we want to draw your attention to a special birthday drop-in tomorrow at the new “Little Way Café.” Please see the invitation below. A very special happy birthday to our pastor, Fr. O’Hare.😊
It has been a great week! Our students are fully immersed in their learning. From simplifying fractions in 4th grade, to determining bias in 7th grade, to designing a prosthetic beak for an injured bald eagle in STEM in 8th grade, to tapping out syllables and letter sounds in the primary grades. In every grade, we are singing, dancing, and reading about important, notable Black Americans during Black History Month. Our study has also included notable contributions of people of faith – like Venerable Pierre Toussaint, a former slave who worked as a hairdresser in New York more than two centuries ago and is on track to become the first Hatian-American man canonized as a saint from the United States; and Josephine Bakhita, the first African woman to be canonized as a saint by the Church in the 21st century who lived her entire childhood as a slave; and Fr. Uncles, who broke the color barrier in Baltimore’s St. Mary’s Seminary, at a time when segregation within and outside the Catholic Church was the norm and made it his mission to evangelize African-Americans in the US; and St. Martin de Porres who is perhaps the best-known black Catholic from the Western Hemisphere because of his work on behalf of the poor. We see how these notable individuals have used their faith to move mountains.
A special thank you to the PTO for the continued support of our school and its mission—Trivia Night is this evening and proves to be a spirited, fun evening sharing knowledge and laughs. I hope to see many there!
We pray in a special way for peace in our world, for the people of Ukraine, and for all those in harms’ way working to restore peace.
Blessings to all of you over the weekend!
Anne Dyke

Eyeglasses and Hearing Aids Donations
St. Louis is looking for donations of eyeglasses and hearing aids. Adults or children’s glasses or hearing aids will be greatly appreciated. The Lions Club thanks you for donations in advance. There will be a donation box in the front office starting on Monday 2/28. The Lions Club will be here in the beginning of April to help with hearing and vision screenings for St. Louis students. Please look for more information coming home in March.
Allergy Season
As the weather changes and it becomes windy, I have noticed allergy season appears to be starting sooner than usual. If your child(ren) has documented seasonal allergies, I suggest talking with your pediatrician to see if they suggest starting their daily allergy medication sooner.
Thank you for all the donations to the clinic over the last two weeks. The 8-ounce bottles of water are always appreciated and greatly needed.

Thank you, Mr. Schiller, for spearheading the return of the Science Fair! This event would not be possible without all of our volunteer judges. We are grateful for your time and expertise.
More than 70 families were able to participate in last week’s Spirit Dinner provided by Northside 10. Thank you, Teresa and Kevin Keefer, for the amazing food and for your support of St. Louis. Our Spirit Dinner Chair, Dina Koch, coordinated another successful event!
