Happy Holidays everyone. As we are about to turn the corner on a new year, we can be optimistic that our world will get better. In the new year, the SBE looks forward to resuming more of our normal activities, including (hopefully) more in-person events again. As you make your resolutions for 2022, include SBE certification or taking advantage of the many educational opportunities the SBE offers. Your comments and suggestions are always welcome. Watch the December SBE WEBxtra Replay
The December SBE WEBxtra covered recent changes in FCC RF exposure rules by providing an overview of what these rules mean to broadcasters. While the RF exposure limits have not changed, the methods to demonstrate compliance has changed. The FCC has also adopted more stringent signage requirements to warn of RF exposure. Our guest was Stephen S. Lockwood, P.E., president of Hatfield & Dawson Consulting Engineers. The discussion was led by SBE Social Networking Committee Chair Kirk Harnack, CBRE, CBNE.

The SBE WEBxtra usually streams live on the third Monday of the month. Watch the replay on the SBE YouTube Channel now.

Include the SBE Leadership Development Course in Your 2022 Plans
The SBE is planning to hold the SBE Leadership Development Course this summer in Atlanta. While the details are being set, be sure to budget for the class when those details are announced.

The SBE has presented the SBE Leadership Development Course since 1997, but its roots go back to 1965 to 1995. The three-day event challenges you to refine your leadership skills as you better understand and improve how you interact with others. Bring a team and share the experience of this highly interactive event. The SBE Leadership Development Course is equally beneficial for those who are already in management and for those without prior management or supervisory experience.
Register to Take an SBE Certification Exam
The SBE provides four convenient eleven-day periods each year when SBE certification exams may be taken locally, proctored by local SBE chapters. The next exam period is Feb. 4-14, 2022. The deadline to apply to take an exam during this period is Jan. 3, 2022. Make your resolution for 2022 now to become SBE certified. See your local SBE Certification chair and visit the SBE website for details.
Scam Alert
Watch for Phishing Scams
The SBE offers an sbe.org email forwarding address to members as a member benefit. Popular with many SBE members, it has been noticed that the attempts to lure users into scams have increased. Those with an sbe.org mailing address have likely received messages asking the user to verify the account, threaten to close the mailbox, or some other action. These messages are not from the SBE.

Maintenance of the sbe.org forwarding addresses is minimal. If for any reason the SBE needs to contact a member about the forwarding address, the message will come from someone on the SBE staff. The service provider the SBE uses will not contact you. Any contact will come from the SBE. If in doubt, contact the SBE to verify the authenticity. You can also hover over (don't click) a link to determine where it will go. If it doesn't go to a website or email with sbe.org, it's likely a scammer. Delete the message.
Happy Holidays from the SBE Board of Directors and Staff
The Board and staff of the Society of Broadcast Engineers wish you the best for a joyous and safe holiday season. Like all of you, we look ahead to when the pandemic is under control and we can meet and visit in person.
Tower Lighting Webinars by SBE Postponed
Originally scheduled to be held this month, the webinar Staying Compliant: Lighting Considerations for Your Tower, has been postponed because of a scheduling issue. The webinar will be rescheduled. Watch SBE-news and the SBE website for information on when it will be presented live. It will still be free for everyone to view thanks to the support of Drake Lighting.
