DEDICATED FROM THE WOMB – LESSON 3
HANNAH AND SAMUEL
In Israel it was considered a shame, or a curse from God, for a wife to be childless. Such was the case of Hannah. Elkanah, a godly man, had two wives, the barren Hannah and Peninnah who bore several children.
Every year Elkanah took his family to Shiloh where Joshua had placed the Tabernacle. Shiloh served as the capitol of Israel during the time of the judges until King David made Jerusalem the capitol. Shiloh was about 21 miles north of Jerusalem.
On one occasion as Elkanah was at Shiloh presenting his sacrifices to the high priest Eli, Hannah was at the Temple (Tabernacle) bowed down to the Lord. Peninnah had been provoking her and she was in grief. She wept before God and prayed silently from her heart with her lips moving but not vocalizing. She was fasting, and Elkanah did not understand her grief. Eli thought she was drunk and rebuked her.
In her prayer, she made a vow to the LORD. She told God that if He would give her a son, she would give him back to the LORD to serve all the days of his life, and no razor would come upon his head as a sign of the vow (like a Nazarite vow).
Upon her reply to Eli, the high priest, he said that God would grant her petition. She accepted that by faith.
After returning home, she conceived and bore Samuel (which means “asked of God”). After the child was weaned, she took him to Shiloh along with sacrifices. She gave Samuel to Eli to serve in the Temple.
God spoke to the youth Samuel. As he grew, all Israel came to recognize Samuel as their first prophet. He also became the judge of the nation and served the priestly functions. He bridged the gap between the period of the judges and the kingdom era.
This shows how Hannah’s vow to God pre-ordained her son as a great servant of God as prophet, priest, and judge before he was even conceived in the womb. He was destined for greatness from the time his mother Hannah had dedicated him before the womb. In addition, when Hannah presented Samuel to the High Priest, Eli, she worshipped the Lord and prophesied of “His king…. His anointed.” (I Samuel 2:10).
Samuel fulfilled his God-ordained destiny in a most excellent manner. God blessed faithful Hannah with three more sons and two daughters.

BE CAREFUL WHO YOU FOLLOW
If you haven’t read the book of Ruth, you should. It tells the story of a family in Israel that decided to go to the country of Moab (the enemy of Israel) because there was famine in Israel and there was food in Moab. Elimelech, his wife Naomi and their two sons Mahlon and Chilion went down. They were Ephrathites of Bethlehem-Judah.
While in Moab the two sons married Moabitess pagan wives, Orpah and Ruth. They were not of Abraham’s seed (Jewish). Elimelech dies, then both of Naomi’s sons died, leaving her with no hope. There had not been any grandchildren born, which gave her no hope of future generations.
Upon hearing that things were better in Israel Naomi decides to go back “home”. She tells her two daughters-in-laws that she is leaving and to go back to their “families” as she had no other sons for them to marry.
Orpah and Ruth, who also were widows, and being childless, were now at a crossroads. Naomi insisted they go back to their families, but Ruth said no. In Ruth It is recorded in Ruth 1:16, “And Ruth said, Entreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God.” She loved Naomi and said she would follow Naomi regardless of the future.
As the story goes, Ruth and Naomi came back to Israel and Ruth encounters a close relative of Naomi’s named Boaz. He was not married, and there was an opportunity for Ruth. He could marry Ruth and restore the family’s loss by being a near kinsman redeemer. And that is just what happened. Boaz redeemed Naomi by marrying Ruth. Naomi’s hope was restored.
What happened to Ruth? How was her destiny determined by following Naomi? Ruth and Boaz had a child named Obed. Obed had a child named Jesse and Jesse had a son named David, who would become the king of Israel. God set up the conditions for Ruth because she followed the right path.
As for Orpah? She was never heard of again in the bible. She made her choice by not following Naomi. I wonder what would have happened to her if she had chosen to follow Naomi, even when Naomi said no. Would she have been the great grandmother of king David? We will never know because she chose a different path.
I would say it is very important to follow the right person. In following, it may determine your destiny. If you follow the wrong path it may lead to no future at all. In following the right person, you may not know where they are leading you, but you can be sure if they are being led by God it will take you to the place you need to be. Be careful who you follow!

Prophetic Word from the Lord
as given to Helen Sanders
Surely I have brought you to this hour saith the Lord. The storms of life and the powers of darkness have swayed against you hard, and yet, you are still standing on my promises. Never in the history of mankind has the time been as dark as it will soon be my child. Lean into me, and know that I am here, and I will see you through. Do not look to the left or right, for I must be the center of your entire being. I alone can fulfill the desires of your heart that you are seeking. Come away my beloved, and rest in my arms of peace and security. There you will find your rest. No man, no woman, no child will ever give you the rest that I alone can give. Let go of all that hinders the time necessary to spend with me, and know that I am waiting for you here with open arms. Come, take a walk with me down paths of refreshment, and feel the sense of your God in your life. Let me take you into places of dryness, but yet you will be saturated with the moisture of my Spirit upon you. Yes, there will be many dry places in your life, but know that I am with you through them, and I will refresh you. I will be your source of nourishment. Thirst for me, and I will give you living water. Arise, my child and know that I am here. Arise my child and know that I am the only source of life for you in these days. Know that I see the longings of your heart, but know that only I can fill those empty places with the love that you need. No one can give you the love that I can give you my child. Know that I love you with an everlasting love, and I give that love to you. Come walk with me my child. Come listen to the words that I want to share with you. Let that emptiness within be filled with my presence and know that I am not only your God, but your friend, your lover, your confidant. I am here waiting saith the Lord. Will you come?
