Gift Card Collection for Chip Edgar
Welcome to Charleston, Chip and Beth!
The Very Rev. Chip Edgar will be consecrated as the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of South Carolina on March 12. To welcome him to the lowcountry and our diocese, the downtown parishes of the Cathedral of St. Luke and St. Paul, St. Philip’s, and St. Michael’s will be putting together a gift card drive. A note from the Cathedral:
Our Bishop Elect and his wife are getting settled in their new home in downtown Charleston, and we would like to help welcome them to the neighborhood. To help them get to know the area better, we thought it would be nice to give them some gift cards to our favorite restaurants, coffee shops, stores, bakeries, etc.
If you would like to participate, please bring your gift card to the office by February 22. You may include a note with your card about the place you chose and why it is your favorite!

Long-Distance Grandparenting
Book Recommendation: Are you frustrated by being a long-distance grandparent? Do you feel like you can’t influence your grandchildren as you would like since you don’t live in the same city? Wayne Rice has written a short, very readable book entitled Long-Distance Grandparenting: Nurturing the Faith of Your Grandchildren When You Can’t Be There in Person. He does an excellent job of outlining the biblical role of grandparents, and then he discusses prayer, personal, and long distance connections suggesting some of the most effective tools he’s found in his grandparenting. He also has a chapter with specific ideas for celebrating the holidays and special events long distance.
Activity: Send a “Heart Attack”! This is a Valentine’s Day idea from Rice’s book. Cut out a dozen or so construction paper hearts. Write on each one of them something you admire or appreciate about your grandchild. Then mail them all together in an envelope addressed to your grandchild. Mention that you are sending them a “heart attack”!

A Letter to the Supporters of La Gonâve Haiti Partners
from Jennell Charles, Chair
Dear La Gonâve Haiti Partners,
As we begin a New Year of mission and service on behalf of our friends and colleagues on La Gonâve island, I want to start by saying “Thank you.”
Thank you for your continued commitment to our Haitian brothers and sisters through your prayers and your gifts of time, energy, and financial resources. These have been considerable over the past year and critical to the livelihood of the communities on La Gonâve.
The images we see of violence, hunger, poverty, and despair in Haiti today can easily lead us to feel hopeless and that life will never improve for our Haitian friends. It can make us question how the efforts of our Partnership can live up to our organization’s vision: a future where everyone on La Gonâve experiences thriving, abundant life.

Fervent: A Women’s Study of Prayer
Tuesdays at 9:00 a.m in the Parish Hall ~ February 8–March 15
Leaders: Margaret Donaldson and Charlotte Williams
Does your prayer life need a boost? Join Margaret and Charlotte as we embark on a 6-week study of the Priscilla Shirer book Fervent. We will take a hard look at what the enemy wants us to believe about ourselves, our families, our identities, our relationships, our pasts, and our fears. By studying what the Bible tells us about the power of prayer and the Father to whom we pray for all things, we will form a battle plan for serious prayer. Bring your Bible and a notebook!

This Week's Service Information
The Rev. Justin C. Hare will be preaching this Sunday at our services of Holy Communion at 8:15 and 10:30 a.m.
We are breaking protocol in today's eSPIRE. While we normally use this section of the newsletter to show folks who don't follow us on social media what they're missing (don't you want to know RIGHT AWAY what Charlie the cemetery guard cat does when he's on duty or how long it takes a slug to cross the sidewalk??), we're going to give our loyal eSPIRE readers this news first: It is Gus the office helper's first birthday today!
Gus was hired in April of 2021 to help fill in the occasional workday attendance holes caused by quarantine. His job at the time mostly entailed helping with Sunday bulletin production, but as time went on, many things (beyond a 60+ pound weight gain and a distinct change in coat color) seemed to change, and he took on several other duties, including landscaping supervision and workroom inventory.
We will be wishing Gus a very happy birthday on Facebook and Instagram later today. It will be old news to our eSPIRE readers––our Facebook and Instagram followers are normally the very first to hear about upcoming events, schedule changes, and the antics of our furry office and grounds helpers. If you don't follow us, take a minute to click below and give us a follow now!
