Making Your Syllabus More Inclusive
Join us for a workshop to discover ways to make your syllabus (and thus your course) more intentionally inclusive for all students.
Friday, November 4, 12-1:30pm BEH-240 and Online
In this hands-on workshop, Dr. Alison Sloat will share a template for a more inclusive syllabus, and you will have the opportunity to revise your Spring 2023 syllabus for greater inclusivity. Make your syllabus more equitable in three steps:
- Add a welcome statement to set the tone of your class. Is your syllabus welcoming, or does it read like a punishing legal contract? Small changes can set the tone from the very beginning of class.
- Explain jargon. Do you explain terms such as Office Hours, Cumulative Exam, MWF, Credits?
- Normalize struggle. Demystifying success makes your course more equitable and inclusive. Consider adding a “How to Succeed in This Class” section.
Lunch will be provided, and you will leave with a syllabus that is more equitable and transparent.
