FROM THE CITY OF MONTEREY
Local update on COVID-19 & more
April 15, 2021
Big milestone for the State of California: All state residents 16+ are now eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine today. According to the Governor's Office, we are on track to fully reopen by June 15th if hospitalizations stay low and Californians continue to get vaccinated. Please visit mcvaccinate.com or call 2-1-1 to schedule an appointment.

Other California milestones:
  • Nearly 50% of eligible Californians have been vaccinated.
  • 24 million doses have been administered- over 8 million more than any other state.
  • California has the lowest positivity rate in the country.
Help fight COVID-19 to the end. That means #MasksOn and #SleevesUpMonterey. Wearing masks, getting vaccinated and testing remain our best defense. Thank you, City of Monterey Firefighter and Paramedic, Brendan! Your dedication to our community is appreciated!
Tree of Hearts: Commemorating One Year of the Pandemic
Thank you @bsdoodles (via Instagram) for stopping by our COVID-19 One Year memorial tree. As a reminder, we have added more hearts and extended the time we will have the tree decorated to the end of May. Thank you to all who have participated. Please come by with a sharpie and write the name of someone you’d like to remember or a pandemic hero you’d like to honor. The tree is located at Friendly Plaza at Monterey City Hall.

As a community partner of Central Coast Community Energy, we are helping get the word out about a new program offering electric and gas bill financial support and Past-due Forgiveness called the Arrearage Management Plan (AMP) Program.

The Arrearage Management Program (AMP) provides up to $8K past due forgiveness for 3CE and PG&E customers enrolled in PG&E’s California Alternate Rates for Energy Programs (CARE) or Family Electric Rate Assistance Program (FERA).
Throwback Thursday: Dennis the Menace Playground
With Dennis the Menace Playground reopening next week, we thought we'd take a #ThrowbackThursday visit to the historic park. The playground is over 60 years old and generations of families have enjoyed it. Visitors next week will notice a new play structure (pictured below, installed last summer)- one of many interesting and creative additions over the years that have made the park famous.

Thanks to the Monterey Public Library's California History Room for allowing us to comb through the archives and present these fun images in this slideshow: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0uaigqLTXk
