The Simsbury Historical Society presents "The Sleigh Trail of Simsbury"!
This beautiful outdoor art exhibit features antique sleighs painted by local artists. Brochures are located at each sleigh location: Vincent Funeral Home, Ensign House, Jay Eno, Simsbury Methodist Church, Simsbury Historical Society, and the Simsbury Chamber of Commerce
A little about our sleigh... The sleigh is thought to be 150 years old and it was used by William Cushing of the Westminster School when he moved to Simsbury in 1900. It was a gift to the Simsbury Historical Society in 1956. The front panel depicts a portrait of William Cushing, Heublein Tower, and the Chapel at Westminster. The back panel shows a young skater enjoying the ice on a quiet local pond. The blues used for the overall sleigh are typical of a sleigh of that era. Passengers in the sleigh used Buffalo robes to keep warm when they drove the one horse sleigh through the snow covered country side.
