Independent Bookstore Day is a nationwide celebration of locally-owned bookstores – and the customers who support us and help us thrive! It's a special day to enjoy what we all love: the feel of books in our hands, the power of personal recommendations, the things that make us unique. It’s also a way for us to say “thank you” for supporting us, especially during this past year. We’ll be featuring exclusive Independent Bookstore Day merchandise, kids’ activities, literary trivia, and publisher giveaways – all with social distancing safely in mind. We’ll also be running our first sidewalk sale since 2019(!), and our friends at Libro.fm are offering a free audiobook with your purchase. Join us Saturday, April 24 th, and help us celebrate Independent Bookstore Day 2021!

Amadeo chooses to be nailed to a cross on Good Friday. He does it to prove that he's capable of something, anything. His daughter, whom he rarely sees, showed up on his doorstep (really his mother's doorstep) 16 and pregnant. A story about what one family has lost, what it will lose, what possibilities exist as five generations navigate the baby's first year.

A little bit A Long Way to a Small Angry Planet, a little bit Mandalorian, a little bit Rat Queens, Persephone Station is a rollicking, heartfelt, adventure (in space!). An interplanetary corporation and its recent leader (who may have obtained the position through less-than-legal means) are trying to colonize “backwater” and "abandoned" land. Our morally-grey cast of characters won’t let that stand. The pay doesn’t hurt either. The not-quite-blackmail hurts a little though. The story follows three fascinating characters: Rosie, owner of Monk’s bar with dark secrets behind their tourist-slash-criminal bar; Angel formerly of the Corpse Corps who leads a rag-tag group of criminals and assassins; and one-of-a-kind Kennedy, who despite outward appearances, is not human at all. Persephone Station shines with colorful worldbuilding just brimming with enchanting details. The danger might be intense, but you’ll still want a front seat to the show.

Gina Frangello bares her soul with unflinching candor as she takes you through the self-inflicted destruction of her marriage. As her story unfolds you despise her, you pity her, you admire her, you want to scream at her and you can't take your eyes off her as she examines the cumulative pressures of a women's traditional place in our society.

Armed with her signature wit and conversational writing style, Jenny Lawson has done it again! Her 4th book is laugh-out-loud funny (as per usual) and will be sure to satisfy existing fans while earning new ones. From heartfelt and honest explorations of her struggles with depression and anxiety to outrageously funny stories of things that could probably only happen to her, Lawson brings readers on a ride that's the perfect cure for pandemic blues.

Can Paula McLain switch from writing historical fiction to writing a complex, psychological thriller? Why yes, yes she can! When the Stars Go Dark is the story of a troubled female detective trying to solve the disappearance of a teenage girl, in the town where she herself was raised in foster care. It is rich in detail and expertly plotted. McLain weaves the detective’s personal traumas, the ongoing investigation, and a series of unsolved crimes with an evocative description of the book’s Northern California setting. This is a great page-turner - I can’t wait to see what she writes next!

Bookseller Recommendations for Kids and Teens

A heartwarming coming of age tale, Allergic is the sweetest graphic novel I've read all year. Kids and parents alike will appreciate the themes of family and friendship, as well as the realistic portrayal and discussion of life with severe allergies. This story will make readers feel all warm and fuzzy in the best way (not the allergic way)!

Huge Bashful Fudge Puppy - what a mouthful! When he sees all the other dogs visiting the store, getting pets and treats, he wishes he, too, had a name of his own, and a human to take him for walks around town. Until that day comes, though, he'll remind you he's not that huge and he's not that bashful. But he does love fudge!
