Yesterday, Mayor Cox gave an update on the current state of COVID-19 in the Lakeway area. Click here to watch that video. The number of cases have started to level off in Travis County, along with hospitalizations. The seven-day moving average for COVID-19 hospital admissions went from close to 70 this time last week, to just under 60 as of the most recent update. There are currently 438 individuals hospitalized in a five-county area (including Travis County). That number is down compared with the same time last week when hospitalizations were at 458. However, Travis County does remain in Stage 4 in regards to Austin Public Health's risk-based guidelines.

Travis County extended the Order related to notices to vacate and evictions earlier this week. The Order prohibits the issuance of Notices to Vacate and removal of property. The Order is now extended through September 30. Click here to review that Order. Additionally, Austin Public Health has updated emergency rules for child care programs in Travis County. There have now been a total of 18,939 cumulative COVID-19 cases in Travis County. That number is up by 1,956 compared to this same time last week, 3,119 the week before that, and 3,169 the week before that one. While overall Travis County numbers have started to decline, the number of cases in the Lake Travis area have gone up slightly over the last few weeks. For the three zip codes associated with Lakeway (78734, 78738, 78669), there have been 356 cases identified to date, which is up by 74 compared to the same time last week, and up by 53 comparing with the week before that. At Monday evening's City Council meeting, Councilmembers voted to formally call an election this November for possible amendments to the city's Charter. A Charter Review Committee has been working the first part of 2020 to come up with revision recommendations. Based on that input, earlier in the month, Councilmembers voted to move forward with sections of the Charter that could be revised and brought to the voters. There will be more details released about the 7 propositions on the ballot in the coming weeks.

July is National Park & Recreation Month, and what better way to celebrate with your family and the City of Lakeway's Parks & Recreation Department than with a virtual Fishing Derby! The competition runs for another week, so you still have some time. Grab your rod and reel, and those in your immediate household, and try your skills on Lake Travis or another local body of water. Then, take a timestamped picture of your fish with a measuring device and send it to us at [email protected]. Prizes will be awarded for biggest, smallest and most unique catch.
